and i've driven my ca18det without a turbo (it was installed but couldnt spin) so basically it was without a turbo at all!!!
they both worked. so what are your goals for the turbo? what do you expect to gain/lose from installing it?
Ok very true VC, I also drove a CA18DE(busted)T and it wasn't fun!
but my Imidiate goal is just to get the car on the road again. And I want to make a healthy 160rwkw...

I'd say stay away from those knock off GT28RS's that can be found on places like ebay. I've looked at the specs compared to the real GT28RS before and it just doesn't compare. If you have the cash the GT28RS is the way to go IMO but, if you can't justify spending that money on a turbo, I'd say go for the tried and tested S14 T28 or similar.

@ Trance - Ja I just don't have R10k for a turbo... plus If i buy a T28 off and S14 it will need to reconned, where as this one is brand new out the box...
But ja. I'm gonna do this and if it fails then we all know.

Ok it very simple, Are you going to replace you AFM and Injectors any time soon like in the next two years if not then just go with a S14 T28 its more then capable of maxing the stock set-up
But if you go with the knock-off I would like to see if the stories are true about the housing cracking and compressor wheel turning off I’m just curious , It’s the old saying you get what you pay for

-So next is the actually Turbocharger itself.
These things really are junk. I have had the pleasure of seeing a couple of these in person. The quality of the castings is terrible; the machining of the housing and cartridge is downright horrible. Bolt holes milled/tapped crooked. Bolt holes too close to the edge of the casting. Crooked mating surfaces. Sloppy edges….etc….
One can only assume the quality and tolerances held by the oil rings, thrust bearings ….etc… would not meet very high standards. These things fall apart, leak, and don’t spool properly….etc...

i can guarantee you that even a new garrett wont give you that much mileage without needing a rebuild!

Exactly VC!
@ Riekiert... I finally got myself the T28 off an S14 from Andre @ Styling Racing and he says the turbo comes off an SR with only around 70K on the clock so that turbo doesn't need a rebuild as yet... The shaft play is very good and almost minimal so it's still good for at least another 20K... I would definately recommend the SR T28 for your setup...
