That is why you dump the air before the intercooler, no point in the cooler cooling for nothing.

Im not quite following u calibrator. how can a wastegate be unnecesary? i would say it greatly extends the life of ur turbo, that is if it is in the right place. And the dumpvalve... every other single turbo car ive seen, the dumvalve sits in the exact same place: just before the intake

Think of it like this, the intercooler is cooling the air which you are dumping into the atmosphere. There was no point in the intercooler cooling this air. So rather not bombard the cooler with unnessesary hot air.

Your turbo is working all the time to make pressure, this takes energy which is power. So by you having your wastegate situated after the turbo, the turbo is working unnessesarily. So you are uses energy and power for nothing. Rather by-pass the turbo so it doesnt have to do all that work for nothing.

Calabrator give me some advice, I am putting in a big cooler, apart from the size pipes etc, I understand by your talk that I must then put my blow off valve just after the turbo and not before the intake is that correct?

I have mine on the down pipe to the cooler, on the top just after the bend.

can't say i've EVER seen a wastegate on the hot pipe, or any intercooler piping for that matter... Normal you vent kazorst gas to limit boost. That is just gonna make your journal bearing turbo see it's gat long before its time...

THIS application is unique and what I have siad does not apply to every turbo car.

Wastegates are normally fitted to the exhaust manifold and divert exhaust gasses away from the turbo when open to regulate the turbo's speed and hence the boost.

Charls car has a wastegate fitted to the boost pipe which is a bit strange. Wastegates are expensive and complicated, a simple dumpvalve with a solenoid switched by the ecu would have worked as well for less money.

By the way after another look at those pics the wastegate is in the correct place for that configuration. I personally would not have used such a large turbo and I would definitely used a more efficient intercooler I dount that one is over 60% efficient and is very restrictive.

Measure the boost before the intercooler and after and see what the difference is.
If it is over 0.1bar then you have a problem.

i thought it was too big. because low down the car is bad... only from 3200 it starts boosting. im geussing because of its size, it needs more gasses to spool...

if i can find a laptop with a 9pin serial port(cable converters and adapters dont seem to work so lekke???) i think i might be able to measure the preassure both ends with the management system to be accurate.

as for the wastegate. u are the first to say its not in the wrong position.
i have so much to learn on turbo cars so im totaly open for everyone's info.

hehe. i should have stuck with my previous car which was a V8

Charl don't let the guys get you under... If it works for you it works for you...

We just saying its not the norm around here... and people always take people on stuff they don't know and understand.

Most S13's are bad low down, the bigger the cooler the likely hood that will get worse, your turbo is also way bigger than the stock item and we already sit at full boost by 3000RPM, but we run out of ummmpff by 5500rpm where you will be able to carry on way past that 8)

Hey Charl, ever think of relocating your Ignitor unit which is behind that heat shield next to your turbo. I relocated mine to the bracket on the arch infront of the strut. All you would need to do is extend the wires of the plugs and BOB's your aunty. Just a thought.

Furthermore you have a great conversion there boet. I am not sure of all the technicalities of the wastegate and dumpvalve and where it must be situated so I will not comment.

Youve done a great job - motor is looking nice, I love it when someone takes time to make it good looking with some decent power!
