This is creepy, I feel EXACTLY the same way, ask VC I had this exact conversation with him on Monday!

I think the ONLY choice is 4age carbed 16v (for a start) Very simple, spares are a dime a dozen, they never break and the performance options are endless!

Also, once you have the 4age in and running and you feel you need more power (Eventually gonna happen) then you just drop in a 4agze with a turbo and arrange management :P

13bt = R3500.00

13btt = R4500.00

quite cheap for many many easily revving kilowatts!

A rotary would also be very nice I love the light engine in a light chassis idea, dunno about turboing it though alot of the builds I've seen they leave it off, less complication.

But again with the rotory I am back to EMS and not carb.

I like the idea of a 4age motor with side draughts but the motor alone costs R4000. Yes that is cheap when you compare it to our sx motors but still too much. I think Ill hang in there till I can get a cheap one.

Gary, a Toyota engine, LOL, I've got a new best buddy. LOL.

If you go with the 4age then you can either use the T50 box that came of the AE86 toyota or get the standard T50 box and buy an aftermarket belhousing. A custom bellhousing for the W series gearboxes are also available. Go for the 20V, with the light weight lotus it'll fark-off.

Will the 20v still go well with side draughts though?? How much does it depend on the throttle bodies??

What does a 4age go for in jhb??

it'll go fine with them, aslong as you use 45mm ones, but I'll stick with the EFI if you can, Sidies are quite expensive now, it might cost you less to go FMS than convert to carbs.

buy the 13bt for 3500.00

remove the turbo and sell it for R1000.00 at least (its a big turbo).

stick a 48 downdraught on there, and get yourself like 180wkw's!!!

plus you can get the older distributor, and then you wont need management at all.

another bigger toyota option is the 3sge or 3sgte, these are awesome motors!!!

top secret removed the 2JZ-gte and installed a 3s-gte in their supra for the top speed machine - i think it was the top speed machine!!!

hehehehehe - i see you guys should do some more engine options reading???

hahahaha.

it depends, I've seen from R2500 up to R4500. Might be cheaper to go the W route, atleast it's a stronger box too.

LOL, ye that'll sound awesome with the rotary, but then it's not a Lotus, the lutus needs that carb/sidie "snork".

3S's are cool, just heavy but they run lekker N/A, only problem, parts are expensive.

4A parts you can buy at ANY parts shop, might even get at the Cafe. hehehe. The 20V might be a little bit more expensive to rebuild.

LOL - i've always said thats a good point for the vw citigolf. if you happen to break down in the desert, and you stumble across a conercafe, they may have a spare block or rings, or whatever under the counter!!!
