going over the engine while it is out of the car is definitely the easiest, but it often isnt as useful as having it in the car.
once its on a bench, you cannot really simulate the conditions that caused the problem in the first place. so unless the problem is "in your face" visible, you may not find it.
BUT - having the engine out of the engine bay gives you the perfect opportunity to replace necessary items, such as water pump and oil pump. please dont rebuild without replacing those. also it gives you the chance to replace little things that perish over time, like hoses. and you can clean out the steel crankcase breather pipe, as those often get clogged and blocked!

Yes,spot on, like I am doing--- because it is krrrrr... like wasgoed pennetjie yes.Bearings!!!Dont tell me about krrssss....

When yours made that krrrr, did it also start making the noise when it pick up revs and stay quite when it is below 2000rpm?

it runs from near your water-based oil heater, goes over the knock sensor and bends upwards to end in a vertical orientation. its underneath the intake manifold.

Fraddies krrr noise starts at abou 3000 revs and then goes away after about 4-4500 revs, it sometimes starts earlier when the car is still cold. What makes me wonder, about his problem, a bearing knock is there or it's not, why does it come at a sertain stage and then goes away again...?

bearing knock is normally worse when hot, because the oil is thinner or my thinking wrong?

You thinking right. Piston slap is louder when the motor is cold because the piston is smaller when cold.

yeah my car sounds like a friggin tiger ready to unleash itself on the streets when its cold!!!
but i heard they making new pistons with little ball bearing in the skirts to even out the pistons travel!!! not sure about it though, just a rumour so far!

of you buy CP pistons like me which doesn't really have much pistons slap... Forgies without the slap

why yours different?
how do they take the slap out of the forgies?

alloy concentrate or something like that...

my alloy is also concentrated, so i dont get it. i say this cos i reckon all the little bits are squished together during the forging process???

I'm gonna get Arias forged pistons though, is that also good? Where did you buy the CP pistons and how much were they?

a more important question is "how long did they take to get to SA?"

Probably because he had to bore the engine and they had to custom make his Pistons, I think
