200sx 1.8t best mods for R7 000?
Hey guys and gals,
I'm getting my bonus for the year soon and i am willing to drop 7k into my engine or suspension.
What is the best mods, best meaning still reliable, but can give a 200sti a run for it's money. STi's here in cape town are fast!
To give you an idea what i have already done to the engine:
Basically i have made the stock turbo bigger (it needed to be reconditioned, so i also opted for the turbo to be made bigger on the inside at the same time).
New tyres all round and new shocks up front and replaced the brake pads up front.
The engine is the ca18det motor and it has 87 000kms (original km's).
I was thinking of going to SAC for a dyno tune and a unichip upgrade?
Help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you've upgraded your turbo, you need to sort out your breathing to get the most out of it (full 3" exhaust system from turbo back, FMIC, Cone filter, etc). If you are on a low budget, build your car to one of these pre-mapped specs and buy the chip (these chips are brilliant and reliable, and a much cheaper option that going for a nistune board. I have run 3 of my 200's on h-dev chips):

But if you can budget a Nistune board, deffinately worth it!
Oh and dont forget some injectors if you are going for 300bhp+

I would definately go for the better breathing option, also if u are doing anything to the management system, make sure that if you are putting on a BOV that you get an afm that does not use the maf, make sure it has a built in MAP sensor. (Read up on Wikipedia about MAP / MAF + BOV's).... If MAF use internal re circulating BOV, if MAP u can use a atmospheric BOV.
Personaly I would not do cams, rather do the 8 port swop.... But it needs to be done right..... Will give you spans of low down torque then boost like a mother..... Remember, a Turbo cam is designed to keep the ports open a bit longer to reduce backpressure, if you replace it you have to be very carefull or u will start to close the ports too early causing back pressure, thus a very possible power loss. It can be done, but do it right if u are going too, you will also need better valve springs then and potentially better valves....
P.S. AFM installs are easier than they look if u do it yourself and all the knowledge is available on the net to do it ur self to save cash. Then it's just a dyno. 60-2 would be the best and easiest for your car.
Coilovers are kind of in the budget if u only want to do that, handling is always a worthy spend.
