who's running on 225/45/17 tires???
hey guys,
wanted to know if these fit the wheel wells in front.
we lowered my car while it had 205/40/17 tires on, and with the new tires (which are substantially bigger) i get a lot of rubbing at the back of the front wheel wells (on the firewall side) but only when the wheels are turned.
at the back, i will have to either have my spacers skimmed, or my arches rolled, cos the rubber is touching arch-lip when turning, and going over bumps.
my big question is will it help the front if i raised the suspension??? remember its only touching at the back of the arch, not the top!!!
without adjustable castor rods, could a wheel alignment help??? would they be able to pull the wheel forward on standard suspension. it only needs to move a few millimeters!!!

oh by the way, mine is an s13!!!Gary57 wrote:I am running 225/45 R17 front and rear with no problem. Maybe your mags (or mine) have a bigger offset??
i've had a front accident in the past, and so did the previous owner! i wonder if the wheel isn't too far back because the knobs didnt fix it properly!
anyway, my mags offset was 42, but with 25mm spacers, it comes to 17 doesn't it???

LOL - mine low, very low. did i mention that its low!!!!!Gary57 wrote:So is mineoh by the way, mine is an s13!!!.
I dono what offset my wheels are I know is they fit and no rubbing at all. Even with 3 guys in the back (all 3 were around 6 foot) no rubbing at all.
when i carted two mags with popped tires, and 4 scrub tires, to the fitment place (tires on 14th - fancy hey!!!) my exhaust scraped the ground on the way out of the driveway, and over all speedbumps!!!
thank god its stainless!!!

yeah at the rear passenger side, i can get only the tip of my index finger into the gap between the top of the tire and the flat part of the arch lip...
and before the comments start flying... i've never had any major problems getting my fingers into gaps before!!!!

these tires are fantastic compared to the 205/40/17's.
much more grip, and with my hard suspension, much more comfortable too.
and i worry less about small potholes and things!
but i reckon will have my 25mm spacers milled down a millimter or two so that the rubber doesnt catch on the rear arches!!!

tyres
i am still on standard rims but one advantage is free tyres coz i have mates in the industry but then 17's should also be ok to find. i am trying to buy a set of 17's, what price should i look at spending second hand and does the car slide nice with 17's as opposed to 16's
I think animal testing is a terrible idea - they get all nervous and give the wrong answers!
