Ca18det spluttering or hesitating when I accelerate

Post by Richard »

Hi Guys, my car hesitates when I accelerate and seems to want to cut out.
It seems like the timing is not advancing. If I leave the accelerator a bit, it moves a little better but is totally dead uphill.
Any help would be appreciated.

I also check the fault codes on the ECU, it's 21.

code 21 is your ignition system so you need to check your wires for the ignition it has a break in it somwhere

it could be that your ignitor is gone or anything that the prob with these sx's everything is wiring and after 16years wires get black death mine has it in few places so it going to be hard to trace basicly take each coil out and see if its sparking

else try get a fsm it has all the diagrams and procedures to take

My car initially would not start, there was no spark so I reconditioned the ignitor, found that my ecu was the actual problem, replaced it with a second hand unit from Draco, car started but now have this problem. Checked fuel pump and coils, all seem fine. This problem only happens under load.

does it hapen when you in boost or out boost try go up in the revs without boosting you need boost gauge for this if it doesnt do it on neg boost till 5k or 6k rpm then you have a boost pipe thats leaking or poped off thats how i got my sx found the car was dead and would try die when boosted it was a pipe that came off my intercooler

Does not reach 5000 rpm, does this as soon as I accelerate to get it to boost. Boost gauge normally goes up to about 0.4 bar.

I had a small hole in the rubber fuel line in the tank so under load or going into boost would do what you are saying but I could rev all the way to 6000rpm if i just lightly pressed the pedal.
