Hey there guys, a friend and i went to go look at a grey 200sx for sale in Zambezi. Upon start up we heard a tapety sound, the salesman told us it just needs a new head gasket. Secondly when idlying there was no smoke but when you give a little gas it smoked a little.
Do you guys think we should stay away or are these minor problems that can be easily fixed?

When the guy started the car he said straight away that it had a leak in the head and just needed a new head gasket, could that be the cause that tapety sound? I'm not too worried bout the white smoke as the turbo would be one of the first things i will replace.

Don't really wan't to fork money now on a new motor as i'm planning on doing a SR swop at a later stage.
cannot think how a blown headgasket can cause a tappity sound.. blown head gaskets cause water in the oil, low compression ect.. worn hydraulic tappets cause a tappity sound..

i would be very careful unless you going to be doing the SR20 swap soon
the guys are right max 30k , plus the guys is a SALESMAN the want to make a sale here i bet the work needed is abit more than he is letting on,offer him some thing een lower.....
Hey guys, thanks for the help. Took a mechanic buddy of mine to go have a listen and he agrees, sounds like the lifters and the turbo seals are on their way out. What i'm gonna do is find out the cost to do the necessary repairs and deduct that from the asking price. Luckily for me i can get Nissan parts for next to nothing
