YO! I'm back :-) I have to say I had an awesome weekend! Drove down on Friday morning, got to the track by 1pm and got to watch some Friday practice sessions as well as watching some other formula's race, including the Group N (?) cars - the 350Z's were kicking major ass!!

While the weather was HOT, there was a constant breeze that kept me cool, plus it helped that I was facing the sea so the sun was behind me. I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea, but if you're into watching races (like Formula 1, etc.) then you'll enjoy it! For me it was all about the sound of the engines - you can feel the power of the car from the sound. It sounds very close to an F1 car, except that it doesn't rev as high and it's not as loud. But the back fire noises as they slow down for a corner sound like 20 hand grenades going off simultaneously! Unbelievably loud! Pity that SA crashed out in the first corner :-( And Germany were just WAY fast - this dude could well be the next Schumacher. And Pakistan were as slow as Germany was fast. I was sitting there, counting out how many seconds it took each car to get around the "parabolica" type corner where I was sitting - Germany took 4 seconds, Pakistan too 5.5 seconds! What a difference on ONE corner...

Anyway, only got back this evening. I'm happy to say that the "Steel Eye" radar and laser detector works very cool :-) All the traps were laser, so don't bother getting a detector that can't handle laser. Despite this, we still got caught doing 147km/h ('cos my sister-in-law didn't drop anchors when the detector started blearing). A few batted eyelids later and R100, we were off again, armed with the whereabouts of the next speed trap :-) Hehehe.

Yup, I rate Adrian highly. It's his lack of experience that lead to his collision in the first corner (in my view) - a more experienced driver would've sacrificed a position or two so that they can live to fight another lap. Anyhow, we were all quite happy to see him come out at the end, thinking it was just for show, but very cool that he got fastest lap! But he didn't get a point for it 'cos Germany's fastest lap in the sprint race was faster...

The donut at the end was worth a point at least.

hey, it's sad I didn't know so many of you were there, I was there aswell, I sat on grandstand 7 just after turn 2. Was damn hot in the sun, next time I'll try for something in the shade.

I sat on the second row from the bottom, so I've got nice photo's of the girls on the "vlot". And some of that crasy guy in his plane doing trick and stuff. Had my movie camera there aswell but look at the movie is still not the same as being there.
