HELP?..Who is the best SX tuner in JHB?

Post by Max My Ride »

Guys the reason I am asking this is that, Last week Tuesday my old pump gave up, so I contacted a certain tuner, and managed to get the car towed to his place, the have the pump replaced on Thursday...
When it got there, his employees immediately started replacing it.

When they were finished I started the car and it sounded fine, so I decided to take it for a drive first, but when I got back, there was a funny noise from the front, the waterpump pulley was rubbing against the cam pulley cover, which meant that there was something wrong with the pump...but instead the machy said that these pumps generally do this, it goes back after driving it, so he put washes between the pulley and the pump to move it away from the cam pulley cover...

Now I don't know much about the SX because I am a new owner, so I thought he should know best.
Anyway I drove the car down to Durbs on Friday, with my 7month old baby and my wife, just before entering Durbs, the car would give a hard jerk the moment I gave full throttle, i assumed that it could be because of the altitude...

Saturday morning I started the car and drove it to the car wash, and just before getting there, the NEW motopart pump broke in 2 pieces, the pulley and the fan fell off damaging other pulley's and the fan cover/cowling....

this made me F*cking furious, because imagine if it broke on the N3 with my family in the car...

Wait it gets even better....I know try to contact most of the tuning companies in Durbs, and most of them refused to help me out, most said that it was to difficult to get the part and couldn't help me out.... except for Kas Moodley who tried to point me in the right direction...

So I wasn't winning, until I remembered I had Veecee's number and I called him up and he gave me Toby's number and from there I was given number of a gentleman by the name of DEENA...who goes by the name of DEENS on the forum.....this man is the most helpfull man in the whole of Durbs(in my opinion).... He not only sacrificed his whole Sunday , but he still managed to source out the parts and come out to where the car was, and spent couple hours slogging on the car just to get me home safely...

Big up to DEENA, really appreciate it, thanx to Veecee, Toby & this Forum, or else I wouldn't have known about Deena!

Not only did he fix the problem but he also adjusted my cam timing which was a whole tooth out...

Now guys it's a pitty Deena is in Durbs and I'm in Joburg, I need a Tuner or machy that is the exact replica if not a similar to Deena but in JHB?
Please recommend some one, as I know need to get rid of that fan and get me some electric ones and new pulleys.

i've said it before, its always a pleasure to help out a fellow enthusiast.

glad to be able to do my small bit. and remember to check out the cellphone application that freddy has developed. it has contact details for many of the members.

as for a mecchie - i dont really know anyone because i do all the work myself. i've found that works best for me. its only the major things that i outsource, like dyno tuning, engineering, etc. mostly the stuff i cant do because i dont have the correct tools!

if you really need new pulleys - try to source some used ones on the forum first. if that fails go to nissan.

as for fans, those are quite easy to install - i can do it for you for cheap cheap if you like! if you car is more forgiving than bruno's, and the little nuts and bolts can be undone!!!!!

Hey MAX on this forum we name THOSE certain tuners so other members can benefit from not falling in the same trap, and sometimes it helps that the guys call back there clients and fix the problems and repeat future problems. And you must take it up with him, point him to the forum and tell him hey, your informing people of your experience!

The most likely reason why your pump broke is the same as Phinx what happened with Phinx... it might have been a FWD pump and it can't handle the strain of the Fan.

I would rather recommend Daune --> The Calibrator he has a sound reputation for the work that he's done.

nice one gentlemen! (see, a club makes sense!)

http://200sx.za.net/cars/200sx/article. ... &article=1
see, it happens to the best of us

a thing that suddenly worries me is the statement on the FWD pump and that i put a sentra water pump in - am i running a risk of going down a mineshaft again? my fan wobbling the way it does? (well, sure, but i mean the waterpump not being as good as the original bit)

how much do you charge to do the electric fan game? and do you put a switch in or properly with a heat sensor?

Thanks Deens for selflessly helping out fellow SX owners!! It's really appreciated :-) I really wish you lived up here in Jhb

BTW, Max, when are we getting a mention on your site? :-)

Thanks VeeCee. May I take this opportunity again on this post reply, to remind all of youon our cell phone application. This experience from max my ride, is and was and will not be the last. Save this number on your cell phone. Do it now: *120*444*2000#. Save it on speed dial. Except other usefull stuff on there, most of our members contact numbers are on there. And it is cost effective. It will cost you less, than making a phone call when you are in trouble. It is our Forum on the move man. Let the Forum be with you. Events, contact of the administrators, notices and news. And then of course the just mentioned phonebook. It gives me joy, just to know, where I am going to travel, that a sx owner will be close buy. Even in Middelburg we have 200sx MP and so on and on. So again, please PM me your email, cell number, name and surname and your date of birth. This I will use to update the cell phone application to your advantage. So, who's detail is still not with me????????????????
Our dude in Upington, you too please.

its an online publication - so you can have one freddie - and you wont have to hide it under your mattress!!!!

with my fans, both are hooked up to relays... but they are triggered differently.

i installed a temp switch into the water system. its from a bmw, but has two switching temperatures. on is 90, the other 99 if i am not totally doff and do actually remember correctly!!!!

the other fan is connected also to my aircon switch. we did this by splicing into the the aircon wires. this is important as you need the fan to run when the aircon is on!

also - dont forget to mount directly onto the radiator (if they can do this - like mine), or use something like a fan cowling to force the air through the radiator, not around it!!!

Hey Max, No problem buddy. I was relieved when I got your SMS when you arrived safely. Medium-Large whisky and off to bed for me. Just for the benefit of the guys that are interested, I managed to get a "GMB" made in Japan, pump for the CA18DE (FWD) and it cost ~R186. THe other pumps that were available were the Italian one for ~R160 and a no name brand, Fong Kong for R120. I have used "GMB" before (on the Fords) and no problem.
