How far off is the RB25det from the RB26det

Post by dariodpg »

Good day guys

Is it worth while opting for a RB26 over a RB25? How much different are the heads? The stroke is 1mm longer, but other than that is there a difference in the block itself? Or does the power lie in the Head. If so, can this head bolt onto the RB25? And more over, were can I then get a RB26 head from?

Thanks guys i really appreciate it

the cost factor is the biggest here. not only is the initial cost of the rb26 much more than the rb25, but the parts costs are FAR more expensive.

i know the rb26 has slightly bigger valves and solid valve lifters, as well as the ITB's, and twin turbo's vs single turbo - but thats mostly it for the headwork.

i dont think its worth it for most people to go for the rb26 over the rb25, but i suppose its always nicer to say i have an rb26, and you okes only have an rb25!!!

another option (not for everyone) is the toyota 1jz, or better yet the 2jz. check out donnie's build for pics of the 2JZ swap.

Wrong, go onto e-bay and price all the parts for a total rebuild, works out the same, only more expensive part is if you want to upgrade the twin turbos with 2 x b/b turbo's. Going single turbo cost the same.
RB26 blocks are not the same as RB25, RB25 have oil supply for VVT in block. Heads are basicaly the same, RB26 has solid lifters, differant cams, thicker head bolts. Exhaust manifolds have differant bolt patterns. RB26 better in std form, but if you plan on total rebuild with bigger turbo, its cheaper to start with RB25.

heres my 5 cents worth...
ok if yo looking at block and head only yeah they are only slightly different. BUut if you start in the std gtr-rb26 vs gts rb25 the 26 has an airflow meter for each turbo, more piping, more wires.
theres 2 turbos, etc, in the head what vc and rbsx said in the block what rb sx said, then on the inlet side, thers 3 throttle bodies on an rb26 with a good inlet mani from the intercooler ,the 25 has 1 throttle body ,and a nasty intake going across the head to an nasty little intercooler thats way smaller than a 26 has.the injectors are lot different too,not just in size but in type 26 has to feed 25 has side feed( i could be wrong and so on and so on.....
if you gonna spend some cash on mods buy the cheaper rb25 and spend the rest of the money on things that make the rb26 better than the 25,like tubo, injectors, manifold, exhast, fmi, head gasket, and if you gonna go head and block ,cams, flowed head, pistons, rods, etc . my money would be on the RB25. yu can pick up a 25 for R8000 but a 26 you looking at nothig under R15000 if you lucky.i
t would be cool to find a 26 hed for yur 25 .....?!?!?!?!?!? you can always put on a 26 tapet over the 25 head and lie heheheheh, the tapet covers do look a lot better on the 26......?1?1/
