I don't know much about the VG30DETT but since I had the VG30ET I did alot of research....they say the VG30ET is easier to mod and get the power up with alot less money.....

The general mods are a bigger turbo, ported and flowed heads, intake manifolds and bigger TB's, FMI....standard Z31 does not have any intercooler, bigger exhaust and down pipe, cams and engine management, bigger fuel injectors and fuel pump and obviously more boost.

With these mods the average WHP is between 350 and 600.....with standard internals boosting anywhere up to 25 psi depending on turbo and fuel capasity.

Guys with forged internals and all the goodies make between 600 and 950 WHP with healthy boost increases.

It is also claimed that just fuel upgrade, bigger turbo, exhaust, management, FMI and well tuned could see 300 to 400 WHP easily with an average of 18-20 psi boost depending on the turbo and fuel capasity.

The VG series and CA18 series fall in the same boat, parts are expensive skills are rare and they will always be in the shadow of the SR and RB series.

It will cost you more money to mod a VG then a SR. But I respect the motor the same way I respect my CA18

hehe.. always smile when it comes down to rb26dett vs. vg30dett..

keep in mind.. these two motors was designed in parallel, at the same time.. why would nissan do that?

because they had two differant design goals in mind, one was destinied for 300zx, the other for the skyline.. consensus is, the rb can reach higher horsepower , the vg delivers more torque.

the one is not a better motor than the other, they were simply designed with differant goals in mind.

there is of course several reasons to choose the one above the other, because the rb is so popular, performance spares can be found more readily, and it is definitly easier to work on, as anyone who has ever worked on a 300zx will tell you

so i guess what i am trying to say is : the rb might be the more desireable
of the two, but they are without a doubt both brilliant motors. 8)

(and yes i am a vg30dett fanboy)

Yep the long tuned intake of the VG30DETT and the RB26DETT with no intake tuning at all.

Excellent motors the same as the FJ,CA, L28 and so on, But these are late 70's,80’s motors Nissan glory days its the tuning scene that keeps theses old monsters running and the SR and RB have that section way under control its kind of sad.

I will never wish anyone bad bad tuning anything but Somtimes bang for you buck needs to be considered

what do you mean IF there is interest???

DO IT!

arm your wife/girlfriend/best man/son/daughter... etc, with a camera.

teach them to use it nicely, and document everything!
