hillybilly DIY autotricks: knock detection

Post by veecee »

hey guys,

i've heard about detonation cans a lot lately...

so i started searching.

two common cheap DIY methods have sprung up.

one is the copper pipe bolted to the block, with a flexible plastic hose run all the way to a set of ear-muffs. the ear protectors found at shooting ranges.

the other is electronic. a knock sensor is basically a microphone right? so how can you control the signal and have it play through earphones??? here's how:

opinions?

i also knew a mechanic once who used an automotive stethoscope a lot. looked just like the doctors ones, except there was a long metal pointer instead of a cup and diaphragm design!
