Methanol

Post by mario_200sx »

Hey guys, been contemplating running my car on clean methanol.

Use to run clean meth on a superboss racing car.

Has any of you got experience on this. Im not too sure how it works with injected motors, cause the boss was using sides.

I am aware that you need to up the compression ration for better igniting of the methanol. And that you need different injectors thats made for running methanol.

Why would you do this? The cons outweigh the pro's by far.

pro's are that it's higher octane fuel. Say 115 RON more or less. (there is a lot of debate about the octane level actually). This is not a giant pro. You will gian maybe what 10kw with this?

cons that come to mind are:

methanol eats all rubber and plastic. So ALL your hoses will need to be changed to braided steel $$$$$$$
You will need to flush your entire fuel system after every drive to avoid other bits getting perished (fuel pump fittings etc)
special injectors (which fail very often with methanol so need replacement every so often)
even though methanol has a higher octane level than petrol you need about twice the amount of methanol to obtain that octane level, so your car will need to run pig pig rich basically and your fuel consumption will double. That puts the price of fuel equal to if not above normal petrol.
Then there's the cancer risk.

So I'm not seeing this as a viable option unless it's an all out drag car.

I will only be drifitng with the car, and with methanol we gained a 30% increase with horsepower on the boss motor.....

I know its a massive slep, but its something different and you can run allot higher boost (if your motor is built for high boost) seeing that your motor will run allot cooler with methanol!

If it's an all out drift car then i'd personally rather opt for a supercharger conversion. Methanol works, but it just seems like a very limiting conversion.

Besides all the above...

Replacing your fuel lines every month after being eaten away by the meth and replacing all rubber parts to do with your fuel system, o-rings on the injectors and all.

Go look at the amazing "eating" habit of meth on rubbers and metals, that might sway your mind to maybe not doing it.

If its power you want get some racing fuel and a good water meth kit like devils own.

Your SR should push a good 300fwkW on moderate boost levels.

Rather learn to handle the power you have to the best of your ability before having this mad sum of power and cant handle half of that.

Look at where the pro's start, a AE86 with 130BHP and they drift the living bejesus outa that.

just my 2c in saving you money.
