Took me less than 10 minutes to find those parts. Google is a wonderful thing isn't it?? Heck if you asked me nicely I'd even pm you the link. Or maybe my s-chassis is too slow for the info to be useful - right?
Yep, see if you get the parts, Nissan's t4 discount isnt even that low on some of those parts
I was not only talking about mounts here. I was responding to your post saying that for the price of a 400hp RB25, you can have a SR20 with the same power.

The point I'm making is that the SR20 isn't FREE. The CA owner still has to lay out the money to convert from CA to SR. Then still spend (a lot of)money (probably on internals) to get the SR to the same power that the RB will make with just bigger injectors and higher boost, or bigger turbo.
CA18 to SR20 doesnt not require having to change 90% of the shit you need to change to fit an RB25! let alone a R10 000 mount kit!!! EXCLUDING SHIPPING!!!!

Uhm who exactly are you referring to here???

Bud, im not actualy going to argue with you further, youve never done this, I have MANY times, when you have done somthing like this and still disagree ill worry about what you think... just try not to preach it to people on the forum till you have done it yourself.

CA18DET - Great for anything up to 200kw

SR20DET - Great for anything up to 400kw

RB - Great for anything over 400kw
Thanks this was the point I was making I never ran down the SR20DET or SR20DE but when put in the hands of an avarge person and I mean avarage the CA18DET will be fine.

Most people will never see anything over 200Rwkw unless they are going to throw serious money at there motor and most people on this forum and normal SX drivers haven't even reached that threshold.

So for the everyday average salary earning guy with a Wife or GF friend or girl with a social life we will never really have that amount of money to break this bracket but with the CA18DET we can still beat a couple of more expensive cars on the road and still be happy.

I mean think about it RAW there are a Handfull or exceptionally modified SR20DET on this fourm and most have spent over R100 000 to get there cars to this point excluding the car , I cant justify that amount of money on a 93 couple but they can. Do you wish to share how much myprodol spent on his car including the motor and all the tuning time?

If you followed the whole post you would know that Dr G has around R 10-000 to spend on his car can you honestly tell him to swap in an imported SR hope it doesn't need any serious work and gain a little power with an exhaust and Gotech\Mr turbo management system? For that same money he could refresh the CA18DET and add a few more modifications plus have a fresh motor

Agree 100%, which is why i said its great for anything up to 200kw :-)

And no, I wont disclose how much he spent, I dont even disclose amounts spent to other customers, that is stricktly between myself and the customer.

What I can say though is that his car is very basic, it has a lot less done to it than most would think, BUT, what is done to it is all good genuine/name brand parts.

I think this has all gotten out of hand a little some good points stated in the post but I'm going to say something that I this you will agree with RAW you have to pay to play.

I want a 400KW RB25 but I cant afford one, But I think for the average guy on the road doing the modification himself and not having a huge bank balance the Ca18DET is fine

I think if you have anything up to R15-000 rand to spend and a little cash every month you would be better rebuilding the CA18DET but anything over R25-000 to spend once off it would be better to go with the SR20DET

lets say i spent that 15 grand rebuilding that ca18det twice, and the first time the engineer cocked something up and it only lasted 3000km's, and the second time i spent a little more and it was very reliable, but not very strong...

i could've thrown that money into an SR20det swap and i would've been so much happier.

now i'm not saying that that is what i spent on my rebuilds, but for the price of two ca18det rebuilds that i did do, i could've done this sr20det rebuild that i've done recently.

and i've finished the run-in on the sr20det, and it literally is so much better than i ever had it with my ca18det. maybe i had a dud or something???

Doubt it, its that you have now owned/driven both so you are not naturaly bias'd to one of them and you can see the benefits of both... vs most people that have never actualy experienced both... When I say experienced, its more than just a street race or a ride in a friends car.

Brilliant thread this, guy (RAW) please keep posting.

I think I am/was the biggest fan of the CA18, I would knock down the SR20 at any chance I could. Untill I drove a SR20 powered S13, the SR20 is quite an engine. The SR20 has HUGE amounts of torque, this is what the CA will never have. The low-mid range torque is where the SR20 wins hands down.

I don't think I would swap my CA for a SR but I would for a RB, but that is because I can do the conversion Myself, but as Ian says the parts are expensive and not available locally as SR20 parts are.

Ian what would it take to get a CA and SR to 250RwKw?? I am just asking I am looking to shoot hole in what you say, PM me if you want.

My opinion..

Ive had a stock SR20 with upgraded head gasket and ARP head studs at 250wkw just with good supporting bolt on's and it lasted a year or so before I rebuilt it for more power.

CA18 to match that would need at least rods and pistons, HG ectr,,, even then the crank could crack,,, obviously with similar bolt on supporting mods as the SR20

CA18's in light cars work real well due to less loading on the crank, but in 1200kg odd cars I personaly wouldnt try to break land speed records.

Would that SR have lasted if you didn't rebuild it?? What kind of abuse can these stockish SR20 take before they will break?? Could a 200RwKw SR20 handle a track day??

Don't you think a well built CA18 is good for a daily that only had the odd race here and there (once a week kind of thing)??

Weakest part of an SR20 is the head gasket, even with just a head gasket it will hold a good amount of power, one of your biggest factors is tuning, good tuning could have that motor runing 250wkw for years, bad tuning and it could melt pistons and throw out rods at 170wkw.

If a stock SR can handle some abuse at 200RwKw with a simple HG change I would seriously consider swapping over. I was always under the impression it could handle 200RwKw but never knew it could handle some abuse at these levels, I doubt my CA could.

Ian cost aside aswell as SR20's, is it possible to get a CA18 to run 250RwKw safely and handle some abuse?? I do believe I could get my CA to 250RwKw with forged internals but I don't want to then be on the limit of the crank. If I do this built the motor must be reliable as it is now but handle the abuse of a track day.
