The Q45 MAF is said to have a Higher KW/HP reading range then the Z32 but the bad part of this MAF is its size it comes in at 90mm (3.5 inches) making getting couples and finding a place for the MAF a bit of an issue. I would recommend the pipe being the same diameter as the MAF for greater accuracy as a smaller diameter pipe will cause the MAF to over read. If I had one I would recommend getting an intake Pipe the same diameter but finding a cone filter to fit this might be an issue and finding a reducer to fit the turbo
The Z32 is only 80mm (3 inchs) but this should be easier to fit, The Z32 is rated to 500HP but there are examples of more power being produced on this MAF and the Q45 is rated to 650HP but there are examples of more power being produced as well, As for the CA18 or SR20 both MAFS are a bit of an over kill as these motors will not really see that type of HP unless you go crazy and earn allot of cash.
Now to make matter worse the Q45 is cheaper then the Z32 but like I said there doesn’t factor in the work needed to get an accurate piping diameter

It’s a good Idea and can work, I have a housing that can take the stock Hot wire set-up if need be the biggest problem is the VQ map the voltage to air-flow ratio calculation.
Any MAF management system needs this Map to determine based on calculation the Mass of the air entering the system if the pipe diameter is changed the whole calculation needs to be reworked I sure it can be done but you will need to check the resolution of the sensor and then have a flow bench and check the voltage / airflow and make you own map.
I have an idea for a hillbilly way using the stock sensor in a bigger housing and calculation the extra fuel needed then bumping the fuel pressure , Domn that sounds worse the a 5th injector

The idea I've had for calibrating a stock sensor in another housing would be to connect it in series with a stock sensor in the stock housing. You could then use the stock part as the "flow bench" and check the voltage of the stock sensor in the bigger housing at a few different values of airflow.
Obviously once the stock setup maxes out the bigger setup will still have a way to go and you'd have to extrapolate that part of the curve.

I don’t think this can work as the sensor uses heat and is measuring the cooling effect converting to voltage so because the stock sensor is in a smaller housing the air velocity will increase cooling the hot wire more where as the sensor in the bigger housing will remain hotter because the air mass is not moving a quickly but I maybe wrong hereThe idea I've had for calibrating a stock sensor in another housing would be to connect it in series with a stock sensor in the stock housing.
