how many of you have baffled your sumps???
like the sr20det extra volume sumps with active doors, baffles help prevent oil suddenly moving to one side of the sump in a heavy corner, for example.
this will allow th oil pickup to always have a good supply of oil.
if the sump is not baffled, then a sudden corner could cause the oil to move away from the pickup, the oil pump may run dry, and then you stand a good chance of running bearings. which will mean that an engine rebuild will have to be done.
i dont want to discourage people though, just warning you.
and please let me know if this is incorrect.
a good thought though is that the sx's have baffled petrol tanks straight from factory - i was very happy to see that!!!

I put some thought into this on Saturday when you told me this...
If you look at our sumps our oil pickup sits on the lowest end of the sump and is only about 2/3 cm away from the bottom of the sump. For mild drifting like you guys did I don't think our cars will swallow air if you got enough oil in. With enough oil in the car, the oil level will never be under the level part of the sump, while th engine is running.
But then again, its much better to be safe than sorry. I did a search a while back on this for the CA's and found very little on SXOC there was a guy that baffled his sump, other than that nothing.
Many of the drifters in the UK still use CA engines rather than SR's because like us they never received the RPS13. And none of them are running baffled sumps IIRC.
I would like to do it, increase the sump size and create a trap door around the pickup, cannot hurt, but if you do it wrong and the trap runs dry it might be a bigger mess. If you go this route, I would say you'll need to build a Jig to test it.

I am not that familiar with the technicalities of the CA18 sumps but what I have always done when drfting was too ensure that I fill the oil over the limit. Rather to much than to little I always say.
Only problem with this that your engine might push up excess oil through the breather pipe into the air induction which will be forced into the turbo causing clouds of smoke. You'll think your engine has gone but the oil burns up eventually. Solution would be to install a catch tank running the breather pipe to the tank with a filter on the tank to allow the engine to breathe.

Is Going FAST SIDEWAYS.

If you are going to overfill, then I suggest filling in 4litres instead of the recommended 3.5 litres. If you fill to much oil, the counter weights hit oil & the pick up actually doesn't get enough oil......This results in oil starvation. go figure.
The CA motor is also fitted with another device in the sump that helps stop this, it's like a gasket thingy inside the whole sump....Can't get the name. Maybe vlade knows the name as he's worked on these motors so much.
