Gary57, run a journal bearing turbo on magnatec for 20 000km's then run one on a synthetic turbo oil and apon inspection youll see why magnatec is not turbo aproved, at the heat a turbo runs at magnatec varnishes the bearings and shaft.

Firstly read on the back of the bottle or even phone Castrol and it is turbo rated.
Secondly after reading this topic I was a bit worried so I decided to open the tappet cover and have a look. The motor looked brand new, no varnishing... nothing.
Thirdly I just had the turbo open twice because of shit going through it, myself and the guys at Turbo Exchanged were amazed at how bearings looked, VERY little wear.
Im not saying Magnatec is the best, I would realy love to give that Softec a go, But I wont knock the oil cause it done me well with not a once of trouble.
If the oil works for someone it is great.....some say edge sport is a lot of noncence....I never had noncence....same with magnatech, the guy that hed the car before me only used magnarech....someone once told me oil is many times blamed for something gone wrong, but often oil was not the problem at all.
If I can find mobil 1 or softec in ptretoria one day I will try it but till now I have not found any....so I'll stick to what I have.
What about Royal Purple? I had that in my car until the car overheated and cooked it. I think it might have saved my engine 'cos I drove for 25km without water in the radiator!
Or am I just adding fuel to the fire... so to speak?

Reminds me of an oil/additive add from a few years back where they drove an old Passat for 150km after draining the oil.... Shell if I remember correctly. What they never did is drove a simular car without the oil additive the same distance...

Oh,i was just stating from a manufacturer point of view,for the demand if would be better to have the 5l it would prob make it about R10 or even up to R30 cheaper if it came in 5L instead of buying 5 1L bottles

while i was a autozone looking for discs i checked out the AGIP fully synthetic 5W/40 anyone tried this,i know these guys are big internationally almost always see their name on touring cars and in other formulas

Shell helix Ultra, the one in the grey bottle is very good. I used that on my first SX on the new engine. Never gave problems.
The Royal purple, I have no idea on.
Aquip is also good, was once used by ferrari before they switched to shell. If it's good for F1 then it's good.
I know it's probably not the exact same oil used in F1 cars, but if a company is doing something in F1 it shows on the street. Shell, mobil1, aquip, bridgstones.......get my point.
Maybe they have changed the structure of the magnatec?
Either way in 7 years of building and racing SR20's I would say stick with a good full synthetic turbo aproved oil, for me the most cost effective easily available one is the softec,
Got mobil 1 this weekend.....don't know how good it is but did hear this morning that my lifters didn't clap hands for a second before going quiet, was quiet from the start.....that impressed me, as for the rest I will see

This is SOO TRUE... I have heard horror stories about additives... If you guys go to www.carbible.com and read up on additives they mention that most of them don't do much anyway.
That's what I said about mobil 1....Very cool. the exact something happened to my lifters......run quiet from start up. I only start my car once a week or once in twoo weeks.
I also run alittle cooler, with the thermostat set at 74 degree's
