nice - does that mean you want the coils???

the gotech was 3500-00. gonna probably run a gotech coil, or whatever i can find at the scrappers.

still investigating using the stock CAS with a modified disc to trigger the gotech. i'm told it cant be done, but i beg to differ!!!

otherwise i will probably go with a 60-2 wheel...

but i still need to sell these sr20det coils! price is for all 4 hey!

the stock CAS can be made to work, problem though is, signal strengh/pulse shape/unknown factor does not seem to be to the gotech's
likeing... never ever could get the motor to rev cleanly :(

eventually gave up and went with 60-2 ..

just my 2 cents.. :)

its a generally accepted method of triggering an ECU, with regards to fuel and timing.

the bosch systems on the bmw's use them as standard from the factory.

in my case i would have to weld a universal 60-2 wheel to my crank pulley, and have a sensor mounted really close (0.3mm) to it to tell the gotech the timing of the fuel and spark signals.

the nissan motors use a very similar method, 'cept that instead of a magnetic pickup, they use an optical one. thats what the disc inside the CAS is for. the nissan CAS disc has 360 slots cut into the outside ring, and 4 holes cut into the inside ring. this way it can tell the speed of the crank rotation, and which cylinder is at TDC.

here is a pic of a 60-2 wheel - which is a wheel with 60 teeth cut into it, and with 2 teeth removed.

Thank you, now this is leading to my next question then: If I want to go the Gotech route on the ca18det, will I have the same problem then?

likely - unless we can get this disc working.

other systems are using the CAS with modified discs - no problem, so i dont see it being a big deal!

And, what is the problem with the CAS signal? Is the CAS signal to low in volts for the Gotech? Or perhaps to high in volts? Can you explain more on this ? In your case on the sr20 of course?

Or similar question, what is the specified signal the Gotech is looking for? Or what is the trigger input specs for the Gotech? May be if we can understand that, we need to get an electronic answer for it. may be some electronic mod I am thinking of. In the FSM ca18det I notice the CAS producing two different signals in volts: The one being a reference signal of 0.6V to 0.8 Volts and the other signal called a position signal of 2Volts up to 2.6V. Becoming complicated perhaps .

Sorry, this is now off topic!

this is now totally off topic.. :)

but here goes.. the nissan CAS can be made to work with a gotech, i have done it.

the problem seems to be this : the nissan cas generates a square wave signal, 0 to +5 volts, while a 60-2 wheel uses a magnetic sensor which generates a sine wave (more or less +5 to -5 if i remember correctly)

so the magnetic trigger has a distinctive 0 volt crossover,
this seems to be more to the gotech's hardware's liking, and gives a cleaner ignition at higher rpm..

so anyway, i have heard from guys swearing they have no trouble using the cas as a trigger for the gotech, but i suspect the gotech was designed with a 60-2 trigger in mind, which is prolly why it works best with it..

also the trigger disc inside the cas (ca18det) gives two signals, one a 360 degree signal, where each falling edge represents 2 degrees engine movement,
and another that gives the same number of pulses as there are cylinders.
the leading edges of these pulses are evenly spaced, but the trailing edges are not. all of this is needed because of the coil per cylinder setup,
the ecu needs to know which cylinder to fire. the upshot of this is that
you might need to have a new trigger disc cut..

whew... tired of typing now, im a two finger typer..
