Ya I did, I did a degree in Bsc in Micro Biology before this.

And no in chemistry they dont tell you that they put the same oil in all the cans with different labels and different viscosities...that you learn in the school of life and the subject of common sense 101

Hanco you know what you are right. Everyone in the motor industry must come and speak to you, cause you are the lubrication specialist in SA... wait sorry is that the world??

Why dont you do yourself an experiment and buy a bottle of Shell synthetic and mineral, then do a molecular break down. Lets see that they are both identical. Hows this Ill pay for the test and the oil if I am wrong?? If I am wrong I will admit it and wont post here anymore...Deal??

Hanco on that I must agree, mineral and synthetic are two different products, both with their good and bad attributes, I don't dispute that.

But I do not say that one is much better than the other, me and Freddy have been talking and asking alot of experts the same quistion, we get so many different opinions it is not even funny.

I say, if you can afford the best synthetic oil, you put it in because you believe in it, if you believe in mineral and that is what you can afford, do so.

The point is, whatever oil you use....that is of good quality ofcourse, the chance that your oil will cause a hidios breakdown is un heard of, the causes of breaks is wrong applications, miss use, bad parts, bad fixes.

Thats not what the forum is about Gary.

Everyone can have their own opinion but forcing it down just because you think you better is wrong. I told Riekert that yes its fine he can use that oil, in my experience it works fine.

Very true Draco, as you said in the previous post. If you change your oil regularly there shouldn't be any problems doesn't matter what oil you use.

No Hanco you said:
The previous owner had synthetic in and that was just a waste!
Why do you think it was a waste?? Cause your mechy told you so?? Do you have ANY proof to disprove the THOUSANDS of engineers that build and design engines?? Do you think F1 cars use mineral oil that cost R140/5lt?? Why would Ferarri's use R720/lt synthetic oil, is it a marketing plan??

Be serious guy, synthetic oil is not the same as mineral oil.

Gary you are right they use those oils, but you forget they rebuild those engines at least once in 2 to 3 races......and with all respect....we don't drive F1 cars....and you are right the oils are different.

To me it is a waste. My opinion.

The car didnt come out with that oil spec so y use it.

You dont put diesel into your sx do you? No you put the highest octane fuel you can find is coz thats what the spec says.

Stay with what the engineers engineerd the car with.

No this is over. Stop being a child. You use your oil and I use mine.

Draco that is what I am saying, why would F1 cars use a FAR more expensive oil is the cheap mineral oil does the same thing?? Yes they rebuild the motors after 2 races but those are 2 balls out races.

There is no denying that synthetic oil is better, I would love to know why hancos "tuner" thinks otherwise.

Gary as I said, do some research as me and Freddy did, we spoke to many tuners and ingeneers....there is 3 different opinions, some believe in synthetic, some in mineral and some says it does not matter, some in castrol, some in shell, some in havoline and so on and so on.....it is unbelieveble.....in the end you don't know shit....so you trust your gut and believe what you want....

Draco I get what you are saying. BUT synthetic oil is not mineral oil with a differnet label. Yes you will get people that say VW is better than Opel, same with oil but to say they are the same product is rediculous.

Gary I don't think he reaaly meant it is presisely the same.....but I understand your point, it is not the same....

I want to recap something VC said earlier, he said mineral oil will make your turbo jernals fail...not in the same words but that is the point....I used Mobil 1 after my last turbo rebuild....gues what....it failed...the oil helped me nothing.....not even a 6 months down the line....it had nothing to do with the oil....

Draco if you ran mineral oil and changed it every 1000km it is probably better than running synthetic for 5000km. There are certain mineral oils out there that are damn good, but they are not the same as synthetic. Synthetic oil is better oil if you compare them directly against eachother.
