I can’t stop thinking about this one. I wish Johan Gough (white sx with black bonnet) was on the forum. At our Harties event he mentioned to me that he always take the engine out rather working in the engine bay with its confined spaces.
Few questions:
1. Assume you are rigged with the necessary equipment; will it be an easier type of approach?
2. Will it perhaps take less time?
3. Must the engine come out with or without the gearbox and how difficult is that.
4. Any advantages, for e.g. inspection and replacement of other unforeseen troubles on its way, safety etc.?
5. Can I do it on my own or would I need another few hands?
Some members said they compare repair by somebody else against buying your own tools and equipment and do the job yourself - Should the above, by removing the engine, be to any advantage, I will look into investing for such tools and equipment.
I think Vlades situation is slightly different because he is busy with a project. But being rigged already, how can the above idea be good or bad?
Am I in here for a surprise or not?

Its quite tricky... I found that removing the engine and the gearbox together is easier than just the engine.
When removing just the engine, there is some gearbox bolts that is very tricky getting loose, then there is the issue of aligning the engine and gearbox when putting it back in, it can be tricky.
Personally if you want to remove the engine, there is what needs to be done
1. Remove all piping, wiring and the fan shroud, remove the radiator as well as you don't want to damage it, cover your aircon radiator with a piece of cardboard for double safety
2. Put a trolley jack under the gearbox (or some other jack it must be able to move, have wheels)
3. Remove the gear lever (you will need crimping cir clip pliers)
4. Unbolt the gearbox mounting 4 bolts, unbolt the engine mountings 2 nuts
5. Start lifting the engine and move it forward, so the jack keeps the gearbox level, as soon as your prop shaft pops out, cover the back of the gearbox to prevent your gearbox oil covering your garage floor.
6. You can lift the engine high enough to remove the trolley jack supporting the engine and you basically just lift it out the front, you will need to lilt the gearbox way to the back in order to lift it out but its rather easy
Well that is how I went about the issue
