hi i am busy with another celica and was thinking about putting a sx : motor do i have to replace my toyota w57 gearbox or would ther be an addapter plate that i could use , do these motors run well with aftermarket management . size seems to be a problem only got about 70cm by 70cm for the motor thanks
this is one case where i would argue to have you stick with the brand name, namely toyota...
if you're looking for a 4 cylinder turbo, go get yourself a toyota 3Sgte. very good, very strong 2.0l turbo.
if you're looking for 6 cylinder turbo - the 1JZgte. 2.5 litre with either twin turbo or single turbo - depending on release date. the later ones had single turbo, and vvti!

Hi veecee the problem is the 3sgte ,the dizzy sits at the back against the firewall as the motor is for a front wheel drive . the 1jz iwould have to cut the front away as the motor is longer then 70cm that the room i have to work with , allso not to sure about the weight of the motor . i allso thought about the 1uze lexus again weight of the engine and running an auto box ? thanks .
lexus 1uzfe is only about 30kg's heavier than a ca18det.
autobox sucks, unless you gonna be dragging.
you can buy bellhousings, flywheels, clutches, etc (basically a manual conversion) to fit various gearboxes though - although its expensive.
as for the 3sgte - you dont have to run the dizzy. if you go with aftermarket management, you can send trigger signals the computer box with a chopper wheel, or a similar type of effort.
if you do go with nissan - i would rather recommend the SR20 hey. since i've been doing my build i'm realising why its so damn popular. i'm not saying the ca18 is bad, i'm just saying that i much prefer my new SR20!!!
