Hi Vlade, I also heard you could buy the cars but could not register them in SA for use on our roads but could legally be bought for race purposes. What are the legal issues in using those engines in our cars????????

the biggest hassle is going to be engine number police clearance because they wont have those numbers on their system.

you CAN buy the car off the dock. you have to strip it, or use it purely for racing.

the problem is putting the engine into your car! how do you prove to the police that you didnt steal the car or the engine???

how do you tell them that you bought a car off the docks without paying VAT or import duties???

good luck with that! i nearly did this with an R33 gts-t, but i opted out rather. i'd rather be driving my 200sx with its boring SR20det, than sitting in jail after watching them squash my 200sx!!!

but if there's a legal way around it, by all means, please let me know!

How does it work when you import a motor and put it in your car?

i raced a GTS-t once when i had my UT,we sat neck and neck from pull away all the way to top of 4th gear, and the only thing i clearly remember about that race, was the sound of that RB20DET engine bouncing off the limiter and the wastegate chirping with each cog change....was PURE SEX i tell you!!!

Mario give Riaan a ring on 021 982 8421.

Ask if he can maybe import you a RB20DET.

Thats his company number. He imports engines.

The process of importing a engine is as follows.(I did it and mine was all legal)

1. Phone Riaan and ask him if he can do it.

2. If the previous answer was yes then pay him the money and get proof of payment. (he does all the legal stuff of getting the number and so on to the traffic department and register it on their computers)

3. Pick up the motor at him, drive it home, put it in, have a beer, look at your hard work, sigh(thinking bout the petrol price), swing the ignition and listen to the most glorious sound ever!

4. Go to the engine clearance plekkie there where we race, let Sipho look at the engine number and get it cleared by him(usually they cant even read or write)

5. Drive to the traffic department get all the certificates, pay for them and get them signed.

6. Drive the living hell outa your RB20DET and save up for the fines!

hancob - thats the proppa way to do it!

at least when an engine importer does it, they get the engine numbers cleared.

but then you dont get all the nice gear off of the skyline that you import. things like 4 pot calipers, discs and pads, and brake master cylinder. 5 stud hubs.

you will also get an engine crossmember that fits directly into the s13, so no modifications will be necessary to bolt the engine in. you will also get wiring harnesses, computer boxes, and all the electronics necessary to get the engine running. then there is a whole car's worth of spare parts. you could install a skyline dashboard too.

its a very good idea to buy a full import car off the docks, but until it can be done legally - then i would stay away from it.

plus - if you do it the hard way (the proppa way) then that beer you were talking about tastes so much better!

Nope not at all, got a fair warning that I mustn't even try... the vehicle will be confiscated. You can however use them for pure racing, but then the vehicle will live on a trailer... it may not be driven on a public road.

I had no problem with this... I bought my engine from some engine company in PTA lost the slip, I created my own invoice and printed the engine number on there... had no issues when I changed my engine number.

Funny enough that you said that. My uncle is has a farm in Namibia. I can "buy" a piece of land there (1mx1m) and then I am a semi citizen of namibia.

That means that I can import a car to namibia, get it registerd there and when that is done I can bring the car here after 2 years and then register is here.

So there is a sortof a loophole!

Nice! didn't even think about that! we have a CC, so it shouldn't be a problem then.

Yeah I made the invoice through the CC I owned... My CC wasn't registered with Sars  and on the invoice I wrote big CASH SALE... so yeah...

Look the cops only want proof that its not an stolen engine... I need to change my engine numbers back to my original now... and yeah I'm not even gonna bother with an invoice...

Just gonna take my original registration form with the old engine number on it and show that to them... that proofs that I was the owner of the engine.
