Aircon Gas R12

Post by Vlade »

No not 12 Rand... I'm looking for R12 aircon gas that is the grade our cars use, apparently this is now illegal, and I want a refill. Not going to hang around in DBN with no aircon yoh

Anyone able to help me out direct me somewhere?

Just take it in to an aircon place, or the okie on the side of the road, and let them fill it.

The new gas (I forget the name) is compatable with our aircon systems.

I heard otherwise and that it will cost me a fortune to make the aircon compatible with the new gas. But I reckon it I need to research some more.

Give an aircon place a call.

I have refilled my cars with normal aircon gas and they all work 100%.

Ok your right... came across this

What needs to be done

* Find gas leak in the A/C system and repair - irrelevant since I drained it.
* Flush system with a compound of Hydrochlorofluorocarbon-141B and Dichlorofluoroethane, which cleans and dries the old oil residue, moisture, and any other junk that may be in the system
* Completely evacuate the system
* Install new gas input and output stems. This prevents R12 being mixed with the R134a gas in the future
* Load the new ester oil into the A/C system. This is compatible with the new R134a gas
* Load the new R134a gas into the A/C system
* Change the A/C system pressure & timing settings to accommodate the new R134a gas
* Place a retrofit sticker on the A/C system stating it was converted to R134a usage

The R134a retrofit is easy. I did the conversion myself, in a matter of 30 min, with a retrofit kit that can be found at most auto parts stores. I have still got my old a/c hoses with the r134a nozzles still on them...if anyone wants them. If not check a local auto parts store.
