What can I build next???

Post by Gary57 »

Ok so I am getting bored now and need a new "project".

You guys have any idea of what I can build for the SX next?? Just remember that it is my everyday car so I cant take parts off.

Any idea how much a S15 front conversion would cost??

They would have to be CNC lathed if you want it rounded.

not true.

i have a perfectly made aftermarket gearknob milled and turned out of aluminium. they started with a solid round bar billet, and the end result was a 45mm (i think) ball of aluminium with a threaded hole for the gearstick.

i told them i wanted it perfectly round, they said no problem... when i got there they said they had made a perfectly round one, but it looked strange being a perfect ball... so the guy made it slightly off center.

as for a next project - i've already had the drawings of the standard pieces made up.

i've also researched the type of rose joints that can be found in SA, the best were at bearingman, but were quite expensive.

the rose joint's bore has the same size as its threaded shaft. so if you want a rose joint to fit a size 14 bolt, expect its threaded bolt end to have a size 14 too.

i'll have hotstuff take a look at my drawings and when he has finished his QC, we will send them on to you!

ya, I can reproduce 2d or 3d vector drawings that can be "plugged in" into a CNC or lathe or waterjet cutter...

We'll see how it goes...

In order to make something round without CNC you have to use a ready made tool that is the shape you want, or have LOADS of time and patients.

What drawings do you have VC, do you have detailed drawings of the suspension parts??

As for the rose joints they arent that expensive, I get a 65% decount at BearingMan.

btw hotstuff that drawings/measurements you made of Mikes strut braces... mustn't we maybe start manufacturing some?

I now have all my contacts lined up, I must just go ahead and do it...
But yeah I need to get quotes on material first and labour before I want to continue, because if it works out to about R1000 a brace then I can just as well buy one.

you guys are nuts!!!

you going to go through an awful lot of trouble, when the products you're looking for are freely available.

@gary - my engineers must've had plenty of time and patients. i'll find a pic!

@gary - the drawings aren't as technical as the others i sent. its basic dimensions, no radius measurement or anything!
