HOW TO TURN MY CA18DE AUTO(NON TURBO) INTO TURBO?

Post by westmaister »

HOWZIT GUYS!
GOT A QUESTION!
HOW DO I GO ABOUT TURNING A CA18 DE (NON TURBO) AUTOMATIC ENGINE INTO A LOW BOOST TURBO MACHINE FOR ANOTHER APPLICATION.
I KNOW ALL THE ENGINE COMPONENTS ARE THE SAME AS THE CA18DET TURBO SO THE MANIFOLD & TURBO SHOULD FIT BUT FROM A TECHNICAL SIDE, WHAT SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR AS THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC MACHINE & THE MANAGEMENT SYSTM IS DIFFERENT.
YOUR INPUT PLEASE!!!!!
dont critic my engine stand, it works!

HERE'S A PIC OF THE ENGINE FOR REFERENCE.

Damn thats oily! but not as bad as my beemer motor :P

It should be simple but can be tricky, the Exhaust manifold from a turbo shoud bolt on, I'd recommend the ECU and wiring harnas from a turbo'd car, and turf the auto box and get a manual and flywheel.

One thing is compression, the NA motor will be in the 9.5 - 10 bracket, the turbo is 8.5 so definately a low boost setup with such a high compression ratio.

All in all it might require some effort, it might be easier just to sell this motor and get a CA18DET as the NA might be missing bits that you need. That one also looks like it needs a rebuild....

Thats true, and someone once mentioned something about oil squirter's as well, but I can't confirm... But yes you are actually looking at a full rebuild, new pistons for low compression, in that case one can just as well rebuild the engine.

Even with a compression as low as 0.3 bar you are looking at problems, the piston on that engine goes into the head, even at low boost you'll be blowing gaskets or have a potential knock problem.

forget these other clowns. low compression is for sissies.

i say take that stock motor and give it half a bar and see what happens. stuff should bolt on so it shouldnt be a big deal. find a 2nd hand ECU and you're in.

just remember - clean that engine first. its rather filthy!

detonation be damned  just kidding.

you could get away with a low boost setup on your NA motor but your tuning would have to be spot on, very little room for error.

you'd be better off with a turbo'd SR or RB in terms of flexability for future mods.
Diesel power, hmm, yes, I think I'll have some of that.
