So what is the ideal FMIC size and piping size for a CA18DET?
I've noticed so many universal kits and different pipe sizes from 2" to 3" and some with different hot and cold pipe diameters.
Is there any concensus on this?

I strongly suggest buying "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, the book covers all the calculations needed to find the correct intercooler size as well as turbocharging as a whole.

From what i've read 600*300*76 seems to be a popular size... maybe someone can give a more definitive answer tho.
I've been looking at some ebay intercooler kits. They look pretty good for if you are on a budget.
You can get a 600*300*76 intercooler kit with 2.5in (63.5mm) piping for R2500 shipped if your lucky. Check it out:
