our cars are expensive, there's no doubt about that. i often say this is brought on by the fact that the motor is protecting itself by banning cheap used import cars from places like japan.

so in order to get an s13 in south africa, you have to find one that was spefically imported by nissan as a new car.

i've often heard that an average car bought on an average salary by joe average in the states, takes about 8-10 months to pay off.

the same situation rarely takes less than 48 months in south africa, in fact its usually 60 months. thats a huge difference.

my point is that we stupid south africans have accepted our car situation and the high prices, and we think that 40k for a normal used 200sx is acceptable.

Although I do not know the entire situation in South Africa, I do have an idea of what South Africans have to deal with concerning any vehicle. How do I have an idea, even though I have never lived in the country? My fiancee was born and raised in Amanzimtoti.

Allow me to dispel the rumor you have often heard concerning people paying off cars in 8-10 months, here in the US. The average American can not pay off a R 33,750 (5,000 USD) education loan much less a R 67,500 (10,000 USD), used, car loan in 8-10 months. Despite what you have heard the average joe making R 81 (12 USD) an hour has a difficult time paying all of the bills on time every month.

Unfortunately the US economy has been experiencing a turn for the worse due to the war our current president has been waging in Iraq and the economy will get worse if he decide to go to war against Iran without congressional approval.

However, if the mind set of the majority is willing except the situation it is in regarding cars. There is nothing I can say to change that fact.

I guess we should watch Oprah more often. Even though she's gone openly all political now, she actually did show the other side of life in the states, in some cases only few miles/km's from the studio..

The war sure is costly. Each of those mobile airports are pretty expensive too...

Yet I have to say if you look at the world, especially China, North Korea, Middle East, Africa then you have to wonder though what will happen if things really get messy in the future..

Widowmaker, here in the US the "average joe" is someone who has to live from one pay check to another despite how much he or she makes on an annual basis. With that said here in the states the average joe could be making as little as R 101,250 (15,000 USD) or even R 6,750,000 (1,000,000 USD) per year. Granted the term "Average Joe" is broad and relative to a given point of view there are people here who struggle paying the bills despite having a seven figure annual income. The perplexing thing is the fact that a person can struggle paying bills yet make a seven figure income, however it all makes sense when you consider the projected lifestyle of someone living in Los Angeles, California where a two bedroom one bath house can cost as much as R 3,375,000 (500,000 USD) if not more depending on the physical location of the home. New York, New York is another city with outrages housing costs, but in this case we are referring to a two bedroom apartment.

Speedbreeder, you are absolutely correct. If we choose to focus our attention on the things we do not have versus the things we do have life become much more pathetic because someone will always have more than what we may be able to aquire through our own means.
