compression test, good idea...need to find that spark plug socket
i sorta think i plugged the injectors on wrong as the harness is a little tatty, still it appeared pretty obvious that they where diffrent lenghts so really doubt it.
no foamage, none at all.
On a visual inspection alone, the head appeared fine
fecking thing. I was so excited, worked my poes off for nothing. bad running doesnt bother me tbh that i think can be found as soon as i put effort/time into it. The overheating i cant handle!!! that was supposed to be fixed!
Have you tested the theomostat?
What about the actuall water pump? Maybe it's not moving enough water. No idea how to test tho if the flow of water is adequate.
I think it's moving water, maybe not enough.

dont forget that the wires for injectors 2 and 3 are similar lengths and come out of the harness at the same place. maybe you go those wrong.
hows the timing belt??? i remember when i put my first CA18 head back on, i got the exhuast cam out by a tooth. it idled fine and ran ok until about 4000rpm where it started to splutter, fart, and basically carry on like a steaming turd instead of pull like a steamtrain.
as for the cooling - when you figure it out let us know please. i know an sx suffering from a similar problem!

Can anyone help me. i put my engine in the other, was driving it around for about 150km, then all of a sudden when i want to take it in for road worthy it starts missing. now the engine wont even start. it just turns and turns and turns. ive checked compression its a bit low but the cylinders are more or less the same. all my cables are plugged it. could it be management?
Goodness Greg, this is not nice. may I also suggest check the manual for possible reasons and causes. Try and eliminate. I am even in worst situation. keep on speaking and posting. Would like to be informed as we go along.
To start you need Fuel + Spark thats where you start, check that you have those two
Remember spark is initiated by the CAS, gives signal to ECU, ECU sends signal to dopler resistor, this sends signal to igniter, this sends signal to coil then bam spark.
Remove a coil, put a old spark plug in there and take out the case, turn it by hand, you should here the clicking of the injectors, and see the coil spark...

I had this happen to me on my first SX, the strangest thing.
I pulled out the fuel pump fuse, turned over the engine a couple of times & then the car started!! The car dies after a couple of sec.
Put the fuse back in, turned the ignition, heard the fuel pump & then turned over the motor & she started.....no problems.
I thought maybe flooding and/or air lock.
Received my head back today. Its brand new, skimmed, valves were grinded, preasure tested, head was ok so line boring was not necesary. Saayman's heads, victoria street Germiston. Little shop there but he has a big workshop in bridell. will build engines for you as well. Got a tourque wrench as well so its assembly time. Yeay!
so geuss who's peeved
8 of the cam cap bolts snapped off in the head. tourqued each one according to the manual an then all of a sudden when i came back, the caps had lifted. what bothers me is each one snapped off in the same place but it looks as if the thread was chewed? and also the bolts aren't stamped. what tensile are these things?
Heh, yea, Vlade warned me about this yesterday when we were building my engine. My torque wrench starts at 14Nm anyway, but I snapped one of the bolts too. Just hand tighten it - 10Nm is very low anyway.

okaaayyyyy, so what is the head bolt torque suposed to be, me not see it in the manual. and also the festening sequence, is it the same as the cam caps? inward to outwards?
daars a sequence, en dit is nie inwards to outwards nie!!!
do you have the manual??? its all in the "engine mechanical" section.
the torque on the cam caps is very low, and the on the headbolts is first to 90nm's or something and then to 130nm's. but i'm not exactly sure cos the manual is all the way in the garage.
my point is that there is a specific sequence, and a specific torque setting for both the cam cap bolts and the head bolts!
