Hi Guys
Can anyone confirm if their S14 has an Oxygen sensor fitted on the turbine housing(down pipe). My vehicle does not have one ,I have seen three S14 s with this sensor fitted. All of them are local imports, from Nissan. My vehicle is running very lean i suspect the previuos owner has removed it for some reason.new airflow meter fitted, new fuel pump fitted, pressure 3,5 bar.
Ian, the O2 sensors where removed locally when the cat exhaust systems where removed. The plug is still there. The ECU gives a fixed value if it is not present.
Most EU main land cars did not have them fitted, cars arrived here cat-less from Scandinavia, I have been told this by a Nissan SA import employee about 4 years ago.
Plug is still there, yes, the wiring harness was CKD so it would not have been made differently, but the ECU has no ability to use that wire, plug a sensor in and use a consult and youll see, sweet stuff all will change and it will not display that signal, our ECU's software was unique ONLY to South Africa and did not have that part of the flash embeded.
Its a touch more complex than just unplugged and capped
If you would like me to explain it further and how an O2 sensor is used by the ecu and cat and why a pre-obd car does not need an 02 to use a cat and vise versa I would be happy to, but im sure that about .01% of you would understand.
Sorry, just what my friend still working at Nissan factory told me. He was one of the guys that assembled the cars and removed the exhauses.... He is not an expert, so maybe he is wrong about the O2 setup?
Assembled the cars? they are full imports, all they did here was take the protective coverings off and connect the VSS and deliver to the dealers.
Our factory exhausts were not manufactured localy, if cars are full export they get built to specification before being homoligated for their country of usage, in a nut shell, they are not alowed to change the cars once homoligation is complete.
They arrived as SDU, doors, bonnets removed. The also swapped the Pioneer radios for the SA spec Sonys... They had to removed the cat systems because no unleaded petrol available back in 95.
Must I prove to you our cars were full CKD? if they werent we wouldnt be having this whole vin number drama with SA S14's got lots of Nissan SA comunication about it. Or you could just phone them direct and ask why they were having drama with Vin reg when they were braught into SA.
And yes the radio probably would have been changed, thats not effected by homoligation, and obviously UK and JAP run a slight change of frequency.
Our ecu's are not coded to support a Cat, why would they build a car to homoligation with a very expencive cat and an ecu not design to run it?
Why would my friend lie to me telling me how they assembled the bonnet and doors etc... The strange thing is that some one on the forum, can not remember who, told me that they rewired the O2 sensor into the harness and it worked. Now I am even more confused
Well in the easily 20+ South African S14's I have worked on, not one of them has a different flash level, from a 95 I currently have in my workshop, to my 97 which was the 2nd last S14 sold in SA, maybe some were different? not sure, couldnt say.
If you say he plugged (no need to rewire, it would plug right in) it in and it worked, you might see a voltage change on the pin out with the consult, but it does not create trim tables, its all got to do with the fact that the o2 sensor in S13's and S14's has got nothign to do with the cat, or the lack there of, our ecu's dont have fuel or timing trim tables besides for those generated from the knock sensor and idle sabilization, plug it into a consult and youll see that.
Anyways, I could get very into this, but its not worth my time, or other peoples time reading it,, its got nothing to do with the topic.
