Starter motor - replace or refurb?

Post by Hotstuff »

My starter motor seems to be a bit tempermental as a woman with PMS lately. Some days it starts fine, other days it just makes a "clicking" sound. The battery and other electrics are fine.

So before I get all fidgety like a priest around an alter boy, I need to know the following:

1. Refurb or buy another starter motor?
2. Where do I buy the recon kits?
3. Where do I buy a new starter motor?

Possible celenoid problem. Sometimes the small + wire connecting to the celenoid needs some attention. Maybe its dry. Just oil it VERY lightly. Celenoids go for arounf R100 at Midas. Take the old 1 with as a sample.

Mine clicked but didn't turn, I had the brushes replaced and worked perfect after that, cost like R30.

Any ideas on part numbers for the solenoid and the brushes, or are they universal??? I have to ask this as soooo many parts for these cars are not readily available, as I am learning...lol

Refurb will work out cheaper. Redid mine in May this year. Cost about R150 for all work. Now starts fine again. Battery Corner - Roodepoort.
