need to phone around to specific bmw breakers.
standalone not an option. this guy wants a standard car!

Get the part number and buy it directly from Bosche.. all you need to do is remap it... Think my buddy paid R1200-R1500 for his.

the whole ecu for only 1200-1500.

this guy is the type who still takes his old 320i to bmw for servicing. so can bmw dealers remap the ecu?

Well I'm not too familier with the story, but he blew his old ECU, BMW wanted R12K for a new one, he couldn't afford to replace it, he saw the ECU was a Bosche and took it to Bosche in Wyneburg (Sandton) they said they don't fix units but they offer replacements he placed and order for the new unit and got it a week or two later... Fitted it to the car and did exactly what you said, took the a BMW service center and they remapped the thing.

i just found that bm's from 1996 (or something) onwards changed to siemens ECU's. i hope thats not the case, because your solution is the easiest and most elegent one yet!
