My buddy is a pilot and preflight test requires him to test the fuel for any contamination (water...etc) so has this probe that fills about 100ml of fuel at a time then has to throw it out... he got the bright of rather throwing it on the ground to save it up and use it in his car... lets just say... his lil 1300 Corsa didn't last long...

Does anyone know if there is any real difference in the petrol?? I know sasol is different from the others as it is made from coal not oil but what about the others?? Your guys petrol comes from DBN, thats why you pay more, and we only have one petrol refinery down here; SAPREF. Now even if the pertol went to each garages repective depo's all they could do to it is put an additive in it, they could not refine it and change the moleculer constrution of it.
So my question is: is there any real difference in the petrol we use??

I drove around a few Caltex stations in the area a while back to get samples, the same grade pertrol, all the samples differed in colour...
Yip, there where quite a few stories about filling stations diluting petrol with cheaper grades etc....
Then there are the solvents they used to clean the pipeline after they they changed from petrol to diesel and vise versa.... bad stuff

Was driving a 3.0 SGLi Skyline at the time and I noticed some strange sound from the engine. After 200 000 km plus you know your car, right? So I just went round collecting samples in litre bottles, went back to the local Caltex where I always fill up because it is convenient. Questioned the owner about the colour and he gave me a bull story... thinks everybody is stupid kind of answer. The strange thing was that only the 1 samples colour was completely different. All the other tanks where simular, but you could spot the difference. Used to fill up twice a week then. Avoided them for about a month, then checked again, all fine, car back to normal. They either fiddled with the fuel or it was a bad batch from the depot.ChemCool wrote:Tell us more about your samples. I 1nce filled up my tank at a shell near us, although the pump said 95 I asked, the petrol oukie said it is....filled up, as I started on the slipway exelerating onto the highway the car pinged....turned down the boost, still so I didn't boost all the way to warmbaths and back....then filled up again with sasol 95 and the ping was gone.
I think that shell garage sold 93 for 95 price...needless to say I never went back...
