i've been daydreaming in traffic for a while now about this engine, and the way it behaves under my accelerator pedal ont he way to work.

i keep thinking "this feels really torquey underfoot, it pulls hard from about 2000rpm, how would it behave with a nicely matched turbo, can i mount it longitudinally, what gearbox would i use, when will the aftermarket tuning bits start appearing"

i also think "it has quite a long stroke (100mm) compared to bore (89mm), so can we widen the bore to increase the capactiy, yet still be safe and reliable"

i also think "its not really a pretty motor, like SR is, so can we get decent engine covers, for the show factor"

then i think "are they even importing them yet?"

its a very thought provoking motor, it seems!

The only bit I don't like is the open deck. Reminds me of an old grilfriend with her Peagot 305 or something.... blown head gasket. They lighter valves, cams etc. will probably be more expensive to mod or get aftermarket parts and expertise.

Maybe I will stick with the SR or RB series a bit longer.

Any motor that needs counter rotating balance shafts to stop the motor from shaking itself apart, shouldnt have a space in the "Performance" Market.....

Lancia motors used this design and won numerous world rally championships with it.

Yes, Used, gone, forgotten... Re-read the article, Nissan has taken all the nice "beefyness" out of the motor loosing alot of the potential and bringing it closer to the borderline. Its power figures are also not impressive for this day and age, and the power can be chalked up to 1 thing, the increase in displacement.

Its an Evolution, but an evolution towards better economy and cost saving. I'll never see this motor as a superior "Evolution" to the CA or SR. Listen to yourselves, this engine has the same displacement as a N/A RB25DE? What would you rather have.......

100mm stroke= blows up over 7000rpm.

Can you imagine the piston speed at 8000rpm?

I had the dubious privelige of driving a Oetinger 2.2ltr 16v Golf with 100mm stroke and 93mm bores.
It was a tractor even with head work and cams.
