so,
after going to mike's place to price some engines, everything was looking pretty expensive, bad exchange rate and everything i guess,
also they don't stock front sump 1uz engines and also looked around and can't really seem to find a front sump one,
also after looking at how much a manual conversion is going to cost on top of all the other parts for the 1uz conversion my shoe string budget was looking very very thin,
so went to go and look at a S13 rwd SR20DE in the area for sale on the gum, yes no turbo..
and since i already had a lot of sr parts for the build..
R4000 later i came home with a S13 rwd SR20DE non turbo engine, a fwd det manifold and a t25 garret turbo
am happy with the buy for the price, fits my budget for once
here are the gumtree advert pics, will post better ones once i get someone to help me lift it out of the bakkie...

so basically the only differences between the SR20DE's and the SR20DET's that matter to me are:
the pistons are different
DE 9.5:1 comp vs DET 8.5:1 comp ratio
no piston oil squirters in the block, but can be installed..
DE runs a distributer/dizzy setup vs the DETS coil and cas setup
the valve covers have holes tapped for the coils on the DET but not DE
valves not sodium filled in the DE like in the DET
no holes drilled for turbo oil and water lines
things like the oil/water pumps etc will be new DET components so that isn't an issue
all turbo DET parts fit the rwd DE engine
so basically i will run the standard motor with the 9.5:1 compression ratio with the sr20det std turbo and hopefully have a reliable very responsive SR20DE+T
9.5:1 is a bit on the high side and basically is the limit of what i would consider for a turbo application, but in the end i think its all about who i get to tune it for me and how well we can do it
also i think it will provide nice off boost power and a nice responsive engine which is ultimately what i'm looking for and why i wanted the v8
also now all the sr parts i had for sale are no longer available as i will be using them once again
damn my fickle will
project SR20DE+T begins
