Re: Project Greenstone.
That sucks. Maybe you should import a Stagea, then youll have the 4wd drivetrain as well.

U should get a decent twin or tripple plate clutch in any caseBigKriss wrote:Stagea has been gutted and the engine is here at the shop. Excited as well as a bit disappointed.
It came with no flywheel!

Barry let me know if you want to buy a motor maybe we can do a combined effort?

Re: Project Greenstone.
Andre, will do bud. I have found one , pretty stock but complete with an Apexi which I already have and some lekka bits as well.
It just busts my chops that I have to do this just to complete one engine..
Will contact you ..
Charl, can get a new HKS tripple for about R6k but I have been warned that it is a gearbox breaker..Oi !

Hey Bud
I suggest telling him to bring the rest, you didnt buy half an engine, it was for a complete engine. If not then refund and twin turbo Lexus V8

Re: Project Greenstone.
Well, the world has ended, the sh*t has hit the fan and I'm here updating....
Firstly, anyone running a water cooled turbo, get the water connections right. I have been having this gurgling water noise after switching off the engine. I knew what the problem was but have been ignoring it for ever.
Eventually the one silicon hose popped that was feeding the turbo bearing housing water and I was compelled to sort it out.The hose ran over the top of the engine from the thermo housing and fed the intake of the housing. From there the other hose went to the top radiator hose via the filler tank. All hunky dory you would say.
So Plane^driver and myself put the car on the hoist and start sorting this all out, new hoses, run correctly with the banjo fittings correctly orientated on the turbo and its all done and dusted. Works like a charm, no more gurgling or steam build up at all.
What also tells me that it is now working well and siphoning on its own is the fact that my rad fans now come on once or twice after the engine has been switched off. That tells me that the heat soak back from the engine and turbo are causing a siphoning effect which in turn is hot enough to get the cooling fan to switch on.
Great stuff, I'm a happy man. I'm also finding that my temps have come down on the Defi gauge by about 15 deg C !!!!!!!!!!
I`ve always had this doubt that the Defi gauge was over reading , nope, the system was not bleeding itself properly and I am sure I had steam pockets on the head and intake manifold at times.
I have still got ideas on how to sort this all out to be bullet proof, well on my way there.
On another note, the silicon hose we buy locally IS ALL CHINESE CRAP !!!!!! There simply is no quality stuff available anymore. The crap about this is that these rip off`s are charging us quality prices !!
In the old days a 50mm air gap between turbo / manifold and a silicon hose was good . No question about it, my Alfa turbo still runs like this with Samco silicon hoses.
Ah, yes, I also re routed a rubber fuel hose that luckily was being used for water. As I pulled it from under the p/s pump it simply broke clean off ! More chinese shit !
The RB has the oil drain from the lifter valley mod that I did when I got the engine .I used VOLKSPARES silicon hose for this. The air gap is probably a good 80 to 100 mm between the hose and the turbo. The last track day we left the track, I turned onto the highway and a great big oil smoke cloud came out the back of my car. I wondered about this as it has not happened again.
Now I know what it was, the silicon drain hose is so badly burnt that it has carbonized and simply got massive big chunks out of it. Obviously when the head drains oil back to the sump the oil simply spills over and poof ! Smoke clouds that will make an F1 Ferrari proud !
So that's the latest update on my car and I am hoping to do brakes on the rear this holiday period as well as sort out a stripped gearbox mount in the chassis/floor.

Re: Project Greenstone.
Please let me know how you fix the stripped gearbox mount. I've got one that isn't in good shape either. I figure just helicoil it, but I haven't had a good look to see if it is possible.

Re: Project Greenstone.
Hey Daniel, one of two ways only. A helicoil as you say or a 2mm larger bolt and the hole tapped for it.Daniel wrote:Please let me know how you fix the stripped gearbox mount. The inserts are good but not for this application.Probably doing this all today.
Getting ready to come have some track time fun with us bud ??

Re: Project Greenstone.
So I`ve been playing with my cars cooling system. In particular the turbo cooling system. Get this wrong and it messes with the engines cooling.
Did, did that , some worked well-just not viable- Others got the temps going again..
Start my car yesterday and billows of black smoke out the zorst ! Strange, first time it`s done that.
Finally find the problem, silicon hose for the ecu runs from the Freddy plenum past the brake master cyl. It got caught in the small gap and got a tine "v" shaped tear in it. Lately Ive been fine tuning the ecu a lot, car really running well. oem well.
Fix the hose and ...fcuk ! All my tuning is horribly out ! Go into boost, fuel kills the spark, Innovate pegs at 9 !!
Oi.Today Ive spent an hour or two getting her drivable , getting there. But as we all know ,this is a long term setup..

Re: Project Greenstone.
Some bad luck there Barry!!
Re: Project Greenstone.
Today I will be fitting my "modified" cooler tank I bought a while back from Turbo Toys. Yes, it`s chinese but it works in my application. What can go wrong with a welded ally tank...Mmmmmmmm, don`t joke..
I needed to eliminate the rad cap on it as it was pushing water out as it`s designed to do. I want to use it solely as a receptical with a bit of volume and self bleeding goodness.
I ran this the other day and got the best cooling results from my engine .. I have now sealed the cap side with an "o" ringed bung which is pegged into place with two "celloc" or roll pins. I love those !
No more rad cap here.
It will be fitted upside down so the two inlets are now at the bottom and the bleeder will come out the top and directly to the header tank.
Once my TIG welder arrives, yup, I managed to get hold of the Rolls Royce of Tig welders, a Miller from the U.S.A. for a cheap repair to a two door golfie..i will be making up a few custom tanks and goodies for my engine bay. At the moment nothing really fits the angular spaces in the Nissan S14 bay that well.

As for the fueling problem Ades ?? Will be sorted today...
