Was the SX Gearbox crappy?

Post by Twakkie »

Sup guys

i bought a 200sx (1.8T) recently with low milage and i dont realy know the them well. was the gearbox not really good? myne isnt very smooth its a bit clunky under normal driving. but the big problem is when i rev it up to about 7k rpm it wont go into the next gear until the revs match road speed as if your trying to shift without using the clutch.

is that normal? (or should i not be revving it so high?)

Box is strong and can handle lots of abuse.

First check that there is oil or maybe change the oil.

As rat said, check the oil, even check your clutch system, perhaps it is not disengaging the clutch all the way. When my clutch slave seals went the clutch sort of still worked but had the road matching speed thing....

Shot guys!!

I think its a good idea to check the and chance the gearbox oil. however i do thing that it is the clutch, coz in the mornings when i try and go from reverse to first it doesn't want to so you have to leave the clutch pedal and press it again. is there some way of bleeding the clutch system or test if it is it?

thanks for the assistance guys.

you can bleed the clutch you'll probably find that the clutch has lost a bit of pressure

There is also a coil of piping that your clutch is connected to that can give a problem.

Run your master straight to the slave. Clutch feel is better but slightly harder.

Its difficult to bleed the clutch system with that still connected.

Done it so many times, i bleed like a BOSS. Removing the loop is up to you.

After Box oil, bleed the system as it might be the fuild in there from 20 years ago. Check for any leaks on the slave.

I struggled. got the scrapped knuckles as proof. Eventually pulled out master and slave and bled the damn thing by pressing the slave pin against a wall

Worst case it could be some synco issues. Remember it is the syncro's job to bring the gears up to road speed so the gears can slot into one another. bad syncros could also do that and coluld be due to wear and tear...

Sometimes it is the inner seals of the slave that are faulty and could also be a leaking master cylinder piston seal. Recommend you check everything.

Guaranteed it is the last thing you check. hahahaha
