Speedo

Post by lloyd bradley »

Howzit again guys,

I am having a speedo issue. when i bought the car the previous owner had put in a dogdey speedo, taped ontop to the steering wheel column. I have removed this and connected back the original one, the only problem is it keeps telling me i am doing 90kph even in first gear. It does not change. I swopped out the speed sensor but the problem still persisted.

I am not so sure what to do to fix this, can anyone help?

thanks.

I am not 100% sure. The odometer aslo does not work, so i thought there might be something to do with that, that is giving me strange readings.

Will try source a new cluster. No, live in a small town in Botswana called Jwaneng.

First make sure the speed sensor wiring is good - test for continuity from the plug by the gearbox to the cluster plug.
I would suggest test the speed sensor as well (even though it is new)

If those check out, it's time to take the cluster apart.

Re-solder the conenctions on the back of the speedo, however it might be something else as the odometer does not work. (Do a search for speedo fix on the UK and US forums - there are plenty of write-ups there)

If all of those fail, get a new cluster/speedo.
