As above, yesterday's full day of drifting got the oil pretty hot and killed my VVT sprocket so I need a new one. I know it doesn't cause any damage but the rattle is very loud, it even had a mate convinced it was piston slap, which I know for sure it isn't as I've had this in a few SR's and know exactly what to look for.
So if anyone has a good condition one, please let me know how much you want. If it comes from the SR20DE then I would possibly look at taking the cams too.
Thanks
Dylan

Excluding delivery, taxes and duties, hence the reason for looking for a second hand one.

Re: VVT sprocket MUST NOT RATTLE
dude honestly would be cheaper going for a set of aftermarket cams that eliminates the vvt... moar power although some bottom end is lost. Getting a secondhand one that could also fail soon as you don't know how worn it is already could be very costly and you might just go to other cams anyway...
my 2c - I would get other cams that disable the vvt - I also was looking for a new sprocket and R5000 which is what it would have cost me was too much.
Good luck! Hope you find one.

Re: VVT sprocket MUST NOT RATTLE
I might consider it but I don't want to loose the mid range the vvt gives me, plus the whole project has been to hunt for power with as much oem items as possible under the bonnet to maintain reliability.
So my ultimate option is a second hand quiet one from a de with the cams as they are a mild cam in comparison to the det one.
Thanks for your input though, keep an eye on my build thread and you will see what I am doing.

Re: VVT sprocket MUST NOT RATTLE
NA vvt motors are not just rare but virtually impossible to find in S.A. I fitted a set of normal DE high port cams on mine when I removed the VVT sprocket. Works quite well...

Yeah I might need to go that way with the way things are looking.
Seems my sprocket has quietend down now though, might change back to my old oil grade and see what happens.

Re: VVT sprocket MUST NOT RATTLE
what oil are you using and what were you using?
My VVt only rattles for a second if my car stood for over a week.
Got a extra one but not selling it due to problems like yours, keeping it safe.
How hot did the oil temp get?Over 100?
