Re: Kaihatsu Factory S14 Silvia
This weekend hosted a few events across the Cape and we selected to go drift at the Saldanha West Coast Festival of speed with the Dr1ft Squad.
The week and day leading up to the event was challenging to say the least with having to install the roll cage, change all fluids in the car for Liqui-Moly products, source a tow car and trailer (all trailers were hired out for the weekend), body kit not being finished in time by the body shop and a flat on the tow car which took 3 hours to get fixed on the day, all before the drifting started at 3PM on Saturday 1st October 2011.
When the drifting started though, everything went right. We were drifting in a sectioned off parking lot at WesKus Mall where the majority of the spectators were lured over by the lovely D1S ladies from the drag section to watch us drifters do our thing. There were so many spectators that we had to stop drifting for a while to sort out the major roadblock that was caused on from all of the spectators watching us.
The crowd was kept entertained by around 8-10 cars drifting, with the Liqui-Moly ROTA Silvia being the car out the most, so much so that a crowd member commented on it having iron tyres. Many passenger rides were given and the crowds were entertained by how we were linking up a very tight space in between concrete poles and plantation, making it all look easy but VERY entertaining at the same time. We did a few parade laps and displays whilst being introduced and cheered on by the MC Vic (Super Drift competitor).
I also managed to take out the daughter of one of the Western Cape Liqui-Moly representatives and she was very impressed and entertained.
The car is gearing up nicely for Super Drift next year and we have a look change on the cards with a unveiling we would like to do with Liqui-Moly in December at a large event still to be confirmed.
Come watch the Liqui-Moly ROTA Silvia drifting on the night of 29th October at Killarney race track and possibly the next day at the track day at Killarney.
More dates to be confirmed soon...watch this space!

More photo's of the above event:

The end of October was a busy period for the Kaihatsu Liqui-Moly Silvia.
A photo shoot was on the books for RACEWEB online magazine for about a month or two now, so on a Friday last month after finishing off the roll cage and interior we booked it in for a shoot on Table Mountain road.
The feature can be viewed online here: http://www.raceweb.co.za/mag/issue30/pageflip.html
We also attending the MASSIVE CTSR park off in Ottery China Town on 27 October 2011. The car drew great attention parked up with 1 or 2 of the other D1S cars. The night also saw the registration for one of Cape Town’s biggest shows, Street Modz at the Goodhope centre 26-27 November. The Silvia will either be on show at the Race Car section or outside doing what it does best, going sideways (TBC)!
More info can be seen here about the show: http://boostsa.co.za/blog/?p=2081

After a bit of sideways action testing after the RACEWEB shoot, we had realised that the diff was just getting very tired. So we headed back to the workshop, took it out and shimmed it up ready for some drifting at Killarney Car Wars 29 October 2011.
The drifting was run just before they setup the track for the all-tar rally. The Drift Squad and I had a few hours of the oval section to ourselves.
The day unfortunately started off with me having to run down to Southern Suburbs to fetch the 8 tyres due to a miscommunication, but we made it back in time for 1 and a half hours drifting, during which I killed all 8 tyres!
The shimmed differential made a huge difference with even tyre wear and being able to put down all the power properly around the oval.
I ended off the session with entertaining the crowd by covering them in tyre smoke and blowing a tyre or two.

See you at the Street Modz show!

Re: Kaihatsu Factory S14 Silvia
Im at Killarney almost all the time, pull in.
As for the cage, it's an FIA approved unit so it must be good and I installed it so I trust it was done properly and all bolts torqued. The plates uses on top and under combined with the floor make for a very thick plate.
In fact I trust this cage more than ANY of the other weld in cages I have seen in SA so far, most of them aren't even welded around the whole join which is just rediculous.

Cool, I will do.
As for the cage, believe me Im not saying its sub standard. I would just be very nervous! Hahaha
Yes, I have also seen some very very scary cages.

Re: Kaihatsu Factory S14 Silvia
I've also seen my fair share of dodgy cages but yours looks very decent from what I can see here. When are you coming up to Gauteng for a drifting event?

Re: Kaihatsu Factory S14 Silvia
Hopefully next year. I am aiming to compete in supadrift next year. On the hunt for a good sponsor because its pretty damn expensive to come up north for a weekend with car and all.
Re: Kaihatsu Factory S14 Silvia
November was a quiet month for the Liqui-Moly ROTA Silvia on track but we had been using the month to plan and prepare the car for next year and SupaDrift.
We attended the most anticipated car show of the year in Cape Town at the Goodhope Centre, Street Modz 2011.
The Silvia was parked in the racing car section and drew a constant crowd where people could finally get up close and personal with the car to see what it’s all about and what makes it go sideways the way it does.
The event also saw a few opportunities open up within D1S about next year and SupaDrift, keep your eyes and ears open for that.

During the month we also fitted a few more items in preparation for next year and I sat down with the boffins at Redline Engineering to discuss the surgery the engine is going to go under for the power needed for next year which we will get started on in the coming weeks.
A few more sponsors are also jumping on board helping me out with the final items to get the car up to spec in the safety department and I would like to thank them all:
Redline Racing
Dragon Customs
Liqui-Moly
GT Graphics
Come see the Silvia in action in December at Killarney on the following days:
- 16 December - Street to Strip Drifting
- 17 December – Open Track day (See what the car can do without going sideways, and if I get bored I’ll put it sideways anyway)
- 26-27 December – Fast and Furious Show Drifting
This weekend, unplanned, we found ourselves at the CTSOC Dyno Day at Dynotek in Brackenfell.

We took the opportunity to put the Silvia on the dyno to gauge what we are running before and after all the modifications for 300KW for drifting next year.
Here is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO35vElI ... ture=share
Figures:
197.9 KW at 0.8 BAR
370 NM Torque
See us this weekend at the Ysterplaat Air Show and come get up and close to the Silvia to see what it’s all about, you may even get a glimpse of the modifications in progress for that 300KW figure.

Re: Kaihatsu Factory S14 Silvia
So now that I have EVENTUALLY settled in after the crazy holiday season, I thought I would update my thread so you can see where we are and where we are going.
First things first, the long awaited intercooler setup that I have mentioned many times but not actually shown yet, here are the pics I have on me at the moment, I will update soon with progress pics.

It is a twin standard intercooler install using the water bottle side for the second intercooler. The power delivery is totally different now compared to what we know as a 200sx! It is super linear and the power just keeps climbing. Its not laggier either, it hits full boost at the same time as it did before, but now it doesnt flatten out...it just constantly feels like the turbo is boosting higher and higher throughout the rev range. You may have also spotted the Z32 AFM and Cone filter for our future 300KW hunt. Next is a 60MM SR20DE throttle body, 900cc injectors and wind the boost up to 1.8 bar.
Then we went to FFG on boxing day and had a blast, 10 tyres later my lower arms bushes gave up which cut my tandem runs with Mr Green short unfortunately. The day showed that we need to get more air to both intercoolers as it was running fairly warm with the bumper design not good for feeding air to one of the 2 coolers when going sideways. Anyway enough babble, here are the pics:

And some videos:

I am currently in talks with a few companies about sponsorships for this year at SupaDrift as I am a wildcard entrant for this year. The car is in the body shop at Dragon Customs getting a full strip down, fix up and respray in black. Perfect blank canvas to be wrapped by the guys at ACOM who are sponsoring my sign writing this year.
I will update this thread soon with progress pics on the IC setup and the bodywork....and maybe the 300KW final steps if I can scrape together enough cash.
If anyone is looking or know of a company looking for a unique and exciting way to advertise their business this year, give me a shout at info@kaihatsu.co.za. We will meet with you to discuss the return on investment for the year, including the crazy exposure companies get on my car through drifting with D1S and SupaDrift (which is broadcast on Super Sport).
As an example, a company sponsored R 200,000 worth of products and cash to D1S drivers last year and they got a R 3.8 Million return through exposure, that is EXCLUDING any SupaDrift coverage! We have the full breakdown for anyone that is interested.
