VLSD repairs? Anyone help?

Post by phoenix s14 »

Hey guys.

The VLSD is not working in my S14. Anyone help with a way to fix it?

Have checked the net and between replacing the fluid etc etc no real fix...

Putting out over 10k for a Kaaz or Nismo unit is not really an option for me...

Shimming will make NO difference except take up play between the components or really mash up the diff gears.

Was also thinking of the oil replacement thing... got a lathe. maybe clean, replace fluid and close. Worth a try since it is screwed anyway and a new diff is much more expensive.

The shim is the wearing part so a slightly thicker shim will work, I know this because I just did Raymond's S13 diff and tested it :)
The reason the shim doesnt work for long in other car is guys go and oversize them (more than needed to refresh the diff) to lock the diff up. It works but not for too long. I will be doing mine but I will mostly just be using it for drifting and not daily so it will prolong the period until I have to invest in a 1.5 or 2 way.
