Drift Pig!!!
First the bad news. My car is sold Things were getting a bit much and she'd gone to a new home...
Now, I'm looking for a drift pig. A serious Drift PIG, my budget is like R20k max. So far I'm looking at:
- E30 BMW - Heard they are like tanks, but have recently heard some horror stories about the cost and availablility of parts.
- Ford Sierra/Sapphire - Very honky tonk, but has the extreme cheapness and availability of parts going for it!
- S13 - Dont think I can find one for that price...
- Old skool - Broad category, cars like a RWD Corolla, Escort MK1, Datsun GX etc, basically a car that will need alot of modifying to make it go sideways (Leaf springs, drivetrain and power output etc).
Any info welcome, just trying to make up my mind, if you have any more suggestions please post! Advice on parts cost an maintainence will be very valuable too!
Thanks guys!

Beetle is spin happy hey, I have k@k in your pant experiences with RR cars...
But after a while i got the hang of it, my girlfriend and her friend at the time loved it when I drifted around a certain corner here close to me... back then didn't even know what drifting was...
Aaah those where the days... No back seats just two 15" subs, with a twin down draft 1600 engine

Ford sierra / Nissan Skyline -- E30 parts are getting hard to source and I can find you about 3 almost complete ford sierra's stripping for spares in 2 phone calls.
Also its going to be easier to get power from a V6 (essex motor) or a L28 then its going to be to get it from a BMW 1600/1800/2000.
Secondly Highjacking on an old E30 is going to be a big possibility.
Seriously if you want a pig buy a pig

For R20K a 3.0 SGLi Skyline.... that RB30 motor can take a RB26dett head with a slight modification....
Lower the suspension slightly, open the airbox, free flow and enjoy. From memory 126kw, 279nm standard. The drivetrain is solid and it's a SIX. The older L28 GTX/SGLi or GT (carburator) will also do but it will be hard to find al lower mileage one.
I owned both a 2.8 GTX and 3.0 SGLi

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone...
I got my eye on a 1984 GLX (4 Door) 2.8
Mileage is high, but the exterior and interior are in an amazing condition. Engine started first time and no smoke at all.
Catch is they want R20k for it. But I'm busy negotiating them down as thats way to high for that year model and mileage.
What you guys think?

cos its an alpha, and you will need specially bent tools and a specially bent spine to access most of the bolts!Gary57 wrote:What about and old Alfa junior or gulietta?? Spares readily available, the 2lt with side draughts make desent power and the motors are strong.
i say go for the 3.0l skyline then. that rb30 is a powerhouse just waiting to be released!!! slap on a DOHC head from the rb25, or rb26. then add the turbos wehn you are ready and have bucks - HUGE power!
oh but i told you that already!

I'd love a 3.0 SGLI but I've been searching high and low for one and havent even found one, yet alone a clean / manual one!
*sigh* Will it ever end.
PS. No Alfa's please, they were kak when they were made and they're kak now!

Ja you do need fancy bent tools, hehe. Alfa's were brilliant cars, ja sure they had a few problems here and there, like the non existant head lights and the wiring that is like a bowl of spagetti, but they were such nice cars to drive. My "1st" car was a gulietta and I had that thing more sideways than it was straight, and what a good car. Just pull out the air filter and that sound will make you never get out of it.
