But sometimes guys can expect good mileage form a turbo charged car, which isnt going to happen.

Not that I'm saying you are wrong, it will just confirm that it is doing way too much before we bang our heads against the wall to find the problem

"Bang our heads" LMAO!!! I've found an Auto-Mate service station thats willing to run a diagnositic test on my ecu for a fraction of the price Nissan were asking for so I'm hoping the problem shows up on there.

And now the latest developement in the problems department is the same issue that Buckusa was having with his S14 not idling properly. Mine has not gotten to the point where it just switches off but I'm afraid its getting there. :'(

The most basic things to check are:
Split or perished pipes
Clean air flow meter

it'd seem the AFM is the source of MANY a problem. Would it be possible to chuck it out and replace it with a fuel management system??

the AFM is a fuel management system, at least its the main load sensor of one..

futhermore, there is not much diagnostics to be done on a ca18det ecu, it does not even have a conzult port, only a few flash codes. have the car looked at by somebody that actually knows these cars, it is very likely that one of the sensors of the management is fubar.

It is. 300sx is very kindly saving you some $$$

Before you do anything further.
1) Download the FSM (just do a search here for a link or google, I'm too lazy to do it ATM)
2) check error codes on ECU
3) diagnose and fix all relevant codes
