Advice
I am sitting with some some headaches....this is the problem.
I am going to buy a turbo and am planning to boost around 1.5 bar, now I am sure most guys know that high octane fuel(racing fuel) is not so freely availible as it use to be, plus, I am planning to drive the car on the road on weekends and what not.
I have 3 obsions, run 50/50 methanol and 95 fuel, run water/meth with 95 fuel or get 105 or 120 octane fuel.
All 3 of these has it's pro's and cons....
option one: 50/50 methanol and 95 mix, that means regualar oil changes, fuel filters and so on might be affected by the meth, although it will be mixed with 95 that will alter it's destructive "force".
option 2: water/meth and 95 fuel, will a healthy amount of water/meth with 95 be enough to sustain 1.5 bar boost, this means an extra +- 4k for the kit and more time wasted with installation and so forth, also assuming I will have a big enough jet to sustain the boost level.
option 3: buy as much 105 or 120 octane fuel as I can get my hand on, problems, storing the fuel is dangerous, storing it for to long might also affect the octane level(this is what I read) and will it support 1.5 boost?
What say you?

W/M once off cost for the kit and a 20L drum will last you a year and costs R300

Re: Advice
No expert here but what about the octane boosters you can buy. Seen them with a 10 octane +....
Re: Advice
I don't trust those boosters....Adrian wrote:No expert here but what about the octane boosters you can buy. Seen them with a 10 octane +....
Re: Advice
Stay away from octane boosters.
I am looking at running racing fuel or water/meth, still to decide which is more reliable (water meth injection reliability or long storage of racing fuel) but yes if your car is mapped right, 102 is more than enough.
Guys in the UK run that boost on 97

Re: Advice
The thing is with water/meth, it boosts your octane to around 116 ron...which is fine....but then you need to inject the right amount....to little...and it won't do the job...too much and you might quinch...
I never had the problem but a friend had the problem of a blocked nozzle every now and then...thats also something that makes me wary...

Re: Advice
Derek, I would go with w/m , just arrange a jet towards your expected power expectations and adjust meth content towards that 50% meth being most you run to get max power safe.... My 2c .....
You can also set the w/m to only kick in at a sertain boost level so if you not gonna be boosting full all the time, you wont waste.... you should be able to run on one 2 liter tank for about 2 to 3 months if you dont drive like you do

Re: Advice
you do know that you can run 100% water right? it is the water that provides the anti detonation properties, the meth provides a little more power.. i run my aquamist system on 100% distilled water..

Hey bud, thanks for the info...I always mix my w/m 50/50...that does not mean 1 liter meth, 1 liter water...they weight different...different dencity, so you need to work it out.Derek, I would go with w/m , just arrange a jet towards your expected power expectations and adjust meth content towards that 50% meth being most you run to get max power safe.... As for the nozzle, they use to supply 3 nozzles according to your HP needs, these days seems they only give one nozzle,.
As for the rest...I will go with progressive electronic unit, not maunual, I had the manual and although it worked fine, from a certain setting it sprays the same amount all the way, that makes tuning a bit harder.
I had a 1.5 liter tank in the boot, I emptied it in a week.....good luck on letting 2l last you 2 months...

Re: Advice
Hey Draco, dont waste your time with stupid fuel mixtures and so on.
Get the water/meth system, just make sure you are using distilled water.....if you dont, THEN the nozzles clog. Otherwise you wont be sitting with clogging issues.
And cleaning of the nozzle should be a routine maintanace on your car anyway. Every 6 months take it out and give it a clean.
Water/meth works and you dont need anything else. Its also the cheaper route in the long run.

Thanks Mario, funny thing is,Freddy use to use destilled water and his nozzle glogged regularly....I used normal tap water and mine never blocked...and I never cleaned it either....I was damn lucky I suppose...

If his clogged on a regular basis I think there must have been a problem somewhere else......
