Need some advice...

Hi guys, i want to find out how much boost(max) i can safely run with my setup?
Stock CA18DET
650cc injectors
water-meth
T3/T4 Turbo

Also how much power can the stock diff and g/box handle before they give out?

1 bar~! your T3 turbo and 650cc got no backup from the bottom end...

A§ I saw the other day, a CA18DET has been running successfully for 2 months on 1.6bar boost, but that I feel is definitely somthing you should not attempt. I would say 0.8 to 1 bar boost, if fueling is done very correctly, then upto 1.2 but that would be the safety limit... You would have to see where your CA in spacific begins to ping. Also make sure to run rich if you go high boost....

P.S. Do some ACL Race bearings first of all, and a cometic head gasket or somthing, the CA's are VERY gutsy if done right.....

It all depends on the condition of your engine, if it's in good condition it will handel alot of boost, with the injectors and all, you are set to make decent power.

I would say make sure what your turbo can handel, your turbo will most propably die faster then your engine would if your engine is in good nick on high boost, make sure the egt's and afr's are good and no pinging and you should be good for a good deal af boost.

The obevous thing here is, if you drive your car everyday and boost 1.5 bar, it will not last as long because you murder it everyday, the safe thing to do is to let a tuner set up high and low boost if you use the car everyday, normal driving=1 bar, go to a drag or club day where you want to run hard high boost=1.5 or whatever your turbo and fueling can support.

Thanks for the replies, I will be servicing the engine this weekend), new oil etc(what else should i look out for while im doing this?
@ POWDER, where and how much for the bearings and gasket?

@ Draco, its currently on 0.7(low) and 1.1(high), my AFR gauge is not working atm but i found the prob, a wire came loose so will reconnect tonight and see how the afr is running, i want to go have it tuned at rbts this or next weekend, are they good?

As far as I have heard they are very good, Ross is aparently the guy tuning and he has good reviews, if you can, before you go to the dyno get a egt guage, that will also help him tune the best he can.

I'll try get one before i take the car but i dont think i'll get one in time, first need to sort out other stuff before i can get the egt gauge though...

Hey G,

You should be able to get the ACL bearings at Midas, seals too.... Just check you havent got oil leaks otherwise, eg, block, head, sump also intake and exhaust mani for air leaks etc....

The turbo u can take to "Draco can advise the guys names, I always forget thier name" they can do a full service on it for u.....

valve stem seals you should also be able to get at Midas....

But the bearings being a major good step in the reight direction for power, they should cost you about R600 for a set of upper and lower bearings... Lower being the most important as they hold the crank...

If you get an AFR Gauge make sure it is a digital that shows decimal value... eg. displays 14.7 and not just lights that go round....

Ok thanks, i currently have a AFR gauge but it does not shw the numbers, where can i buy a loose gauge with no lambda sensor etc that i can connect it to my existing lambda?

Dont know where, still looking for one myself, I have put in one with the little lights as a temp measure (Auto gauge) till I can find a proper one... You can also look into the Gotech AFR meter thing.... I seen it work and it is good, but just expensive... Like R4000 or something stupid like that, let me know if you find one.... I'll let u know if I find one too...

Thanks for the links POWDER, but i think i might have a solution to my(our) problem, im going to buy a turbo timer, the one im thinking of getting is like the one Charl is selling, it gives you the AFR as a number just like the AFR gauge would so then ill have the number from the timer and the gauge with the lights, i think it should be good enough?
