300KW SR20DET RB25DET Engine swap

Post by VegetaSSJ4 »

Hi guys
I am sitting with a dillema on my hands.

I want to know what it will cost me to make my SR20DET make 300KW.
Or would it be better just to do a RB25 engine swap?
Who can tell me what it will cost to make a SR20 make 300KW.
Or what the total costs would be to do a RB25 swap.

Thanks guys

How long is your piece of string?

Cost is equiavlent to 1c per 1mm of length, or R10/metre.

to hold 300kw the bottom end need seriously upgrade...
forged piston and rods!

you will need RAS+step 2 cam and head work...
and top mount turbo... fuel management

that already R30k on parts

check out my build thread for RB swop pricing, it will give you a good idea

std RB+bigger turbo+bigger injectors=300kw

you would obviously want a couple things extra to make it more "safe" but basically turbo and injectors to take an RB to 300kw

also depends on what you want from the car, track toy, road racer etc

sr for track

rb has good of boost torque and one of the best sounding engines ever, fun for road driving (not that sr isnt)

depends on what you want
Time to nut up or shut up. RB25DET S13 (sold)

Current. CA18DET S13

I am not pro RB or SR before i start this
as a fast road car it will be a RB25 at R50K stock convertion BUT i would get a good ecu as Dicktator sucks ass in my opion  ,also inj and turbo.
if you going SR at 300kw the costs will be similer to the rb convertion if not alot more as the SR box will pop at 280kw +- from friends experience. Thats a RB25 box on the SR -not cheap and you still have to find a place to do it PROPERLY.
if you stay under 280kw the SR is the way to go. It will be easier and a better balanced car  build motor, turbo, inj ,good ecu etc and its fast as hell and easy to drive.go over 300kw and the sr becomes just as expensive as RB up to 350kw.

over 350kw on both SR and RB and you need to visit your bank manager

300KW SR20DET RB25DET Engine swap

Post by VegetaSSJ4 »

From what people are telling me.
The RB25 Engine swap would be the cheaper option for quick power?
And that the SR is fully capable of getting that power it is just going to cost a pretty penny.

I am leaning towards the RB engine swap.
I just have one question to all the RB owners..

Compared to a SR how is the fuel economy?
When your not redlining every gear

Normal driving to work and such :?:

Then I am going to think about it & make a decision.

Or better yet Who says Stick with SR or go RB????
:? :? :?

I say SR but that's a biased opinion.

And what do you think will be better for day to day economy? A 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder? Kind of goes without saying that the 6 pot will drink more fuel.

But I do agree that a RB will be a good option if its a daily drive that you want some power for street use...but I still maintain the 4 pot just leaves the 200sx as it should be, awesome handling, lightweight & well balanced car.

Well took my car to germiston on tuesday, had just over a quarter tank with mix when i left, got to elsburg and still had a quarter left, wasnt driving in boost all the time, cruising speed was like 120-140.i was really impressed. The other option is to run 2 maps, low for fuel saving high for racing.the sky is the limit i recon.

all the guys here have cheapo ecu for the RB swops so fuel ecomomy is crap full stop
if you do the rb swop with good ecu so you can map it per cylinder it can be ok ,i cant remember what Ian was getting on his RB S14 with Apexi driving daily but im sure if was not 300-350km per 50 litres

Stick with the SR at 280kw ,just dont go to gearbox breaking point  as it will become $$$

300KW SR20DET RB25DET Engine swap

Post by VegetaSSJ4 »

I know that the RB25 will be heavier on fuel than a SR.
My question is how far does a RB powered S14 go on say a tank of petrol?

Just a thought.
I want a powerful car but it mustn't drink like a 6.2L V8.

I know that my one friend has a S13 and the thing has no economy at all he gets 300 - 350Km's on a tank.

Currently I am getting 500 - 600Km's on a tank on my SR and that is with the occasional drive like your ass is on fire.

I would just like to know how much heavier than a SR.

Anybody???
