engine problems

Post by wez_sx »

Hey guys my ca18det had been making this knocking sound at idle and under decompression. i unplugged my coils 1 by 1 and the noise goes away when the 1 coil is unplugged but no the rest. The local garage thinks it could be the conrod bearing that connects it to the crank. its bn making the noise for a while but on friday it became really bad i wasnt comfortable driving it.

What could it be, how do i diagnose the cause of this and how do i fix it, any help would be appreciated thank you

Sup guys soooooooooo....

Head is off and no.1 piston got a bad big end knock!!!
now im jus curious cos ive been runnin the car already for a few months with a slight knock but only around 3.5k rpm and certain throttle positions only....it sounded like a cam knock cos it was a very slight low pitched rattle ....now with the sudden big end knock was i mistaken and the lil knock was actually the big end and it slowly got worse???

jus find it strange that the beginning knock was only at a certain rev n throttle!

another peive is the sump cant even be taken off without the engine bein hoisted!!!!C'mon may as well have taken the whole dam engine out!!!

anybody got ideas on the reliabilty of the oil pump because if im replacin my big ends mains n wat not i dont want anymore sh1t???

Shot guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My ca did the same till I had no bearing left in no 2 but I guess at 200k/ph that's what happens
Yes it starts with a small noise then gets worse
When I pulled the motor nd put I back I found if I drop the engine mounts off the block its easier and yea the sump is a problem to take off in the car but why not do the whole motor over maybe go forged???

No. 1 - I would say replace your bearings with ACL race bearings, they not to expensive but will last a life time of your motor. I would though just as well replace the topend bearings bearings same time as well.

No. 2 - If I remember correctly, you should not need to hoist the motor, unless I just forgot and the sump is mounted above the cross member, hmm. But shouldn't be a mission.

No. 3 - Dont know, ur oil pump should depend on the abuse it has received in the past.

No. 4 - Are you sure the rattling like tapping sound your hearing is not the rockers or lifters or something? Does the frequency increase the more you rev? Does it go away after the car has been warmed up nicely by idling?

Hope this helps

Shot guys!! jus askin cos i know a mate with a bm went 325 turbo and oil pump gave and motor was wrecked in no a few 100km's after so much was spent! so was kinda askin if they're notorious for givin in like opels!!!haha

sweet yeah plannin as much as i can do on my budget at the moment need my car asap and dont have as much cash as i'd like? acl race bearings sound good! i'll enquire....

the noise was very consistant .... 3.5k-4k rpm at possibly half throttle and than again any throttle at 6k+??the noise was there at any temp and sounded bit too rough to be the rockers...ive mixed and matched most my head with parts from my old motor cos the import engine was standin for a lonk time...hydraulic lifters were sticky and water pump was even seized!! and this time im doin it right been slowly doin the other head up DIY portin and polishin new seals n all!! Suppose regardless of the problem doin all the bearings and changin the head will sort it out!

Keen for a strong ca18det!!!

give me some motivation peeps.... 0.8bar 76mm zotst and perfect power chip...Wat can i xpect:)?????

couldnt say, I suppose u could add about 15 to 30 kw, I would not go chip though, people always regret it afterwards (Well most of the time anyway, well if you going for high boost that is)

Personally I would say though, keep the Management standard for now, it knows how to compensate for changes to your system as it is (The best part about std management) And rather concentrate on your Zorst, Air Intake, a recirculating BOV for throttle responce, bigger FMIC or V-Mount, anything to ease your air in and out, o and decat with a single silencer.

Also, std ecu can compensate for upto about 1 bar boost so add a boost controller to the mix and you should have way more power that the chip would do...

Think a little longer about the ECU issue before you just get a chip first, like what u want your end result to be....

Hotstuff is currently running 210.1RWKW on stock CA18DET Internals on low 0.8 bar boost with out the NOS, when it kicks to High boost, now that is somthing.

So anything is possible.
