S13 Stock performance tuning

Hi guys, well as you know i just got my S13 the other day, ive already been working on things and fixing stuff up, but i wanted to ask you guys, is a 76mm straight through exhaust overkill for the stock setup and stock turbo?
The previous guy put on a complete free flow 76mm mild steel system with just a back box on, i was thinking of putting on a smaller stainless steel system as he had installed this exhaust quite badly as it rattles, but the car seems to drive really nicely with it and does not sound rude or loud atall.
Would you guys say i keep it 76mm and just get it fitted properly?
Also the car has a cone filter on and i dont have the original air box in, i was thinking of making a alliminium sheeted enclosure behind the light to ive it a nice air box area.
Also what do you guys think of a stand alone Dictator management or similar? I was told its a good idea to put in a stand alone after market management kit so that i can forget about the sensors that like to go faulty like the AFM etc, would you guys reckon this is a good idea long term?
At the moment there is also quite a dead spot on my revs before boost, the previous owner assured me that its the turbo lag but it can get irritating when im accelorating slowly and then at about 2000-2500rpm the revs just feel dead then it all of a sudden picks up, also if i rev it up in neutral then the needle will come down steady but will then stick at 2000rpm and then it will slowly drop down to about 1000rpm
