Car is std and has stood for many years. Even in neutral it hits a limiter at 4k

Have you serviced the car? I'd suggest that and cleaning the air flow meter with carb cleaner

yes but havent done the afm will try tonight.

Not maybe the engine temp sensor that is putting the car in a safe map?

It could be many things but start off with easy items first.

One of my s13's did this and it was the afm. Best thing is to try clean it and if that doesn't work then test it with a known working one as the unit itself might be faulty.

you have checked for ecu fault codes havent you? This is for the standard S13 right?

I drove around for a while with a faulty temp sensor, it still drove fine not as good as when its working but not so bad that you would think there's a real problem.

A faulty engine coolant temp sensor will not put the car in limp mode.

It will only keep the car in the over-rich start up map by assuming the car's operating temp is below normal.

Have to agree, check the error codes. But if it's in limp mode it's probably the MAF.

i had same problem on sr found that it was a faulty crank sensor...

Hey dude, check if the temp guage rises, that should thell u if it working, Djtrebble is right at assumin the MAF they can cause bad limp mode, CAS can also cause issues like that, mark the CAS for where it is then tyr advancing it a bit to see if that's the problem.

Codes will give u better idea though.....

Wrong. There are two seperate sensors:
- Engine temp sensor with the bosch type connector that goes to the ECU
- Cluster temp sensor which has a blade conenction that goes to the back of the cluster

Appologies guy, completely forgot about that.... Enzio is right there..... There is also an airtemp sensor built into ur MAF which could be messin u arround, but don't think it would cause such harsh problems, I have a spare MAF though if U would like to test the theory.....

no faults came up on the std ecu, cleaned the afm out. Need a working battery to start the car. Anyone know the std size for the sx?
