Exhaust(turbine) Housings.

To the guys who know:

I am planning a T3/T61 for my CA18DET with forgies, the T61 is big I know but I want as much power with as little boost as possible.I am going to put my goal up to around 350-400whp with no mods to head, no hot cams, no bigger TB to see what is possible with all that standard, remember I have already made 307 whp with a T3 turbo that was not big at all, then later I want to install hotter cams and larger TB and see what gains there is. Remember my plan for the car is mostly street car but be able to go on a drag strip and be able to run decent times.

Right, the garret turbine housings come in the following sizes, AR36, AR48 and AR63, I know and have experienced the AR48 stage 1 I presume and it was laggy, not to bad but full boost was only there at just before 4500rpm.

Now I am thinking, a T3 AR36 turbine housing with a stage 3 or higher if possible turbine wheel, my boost should come in alot sooner and be able to flow enough right through the rev range...????

Opinions?

in general a small exhaust side will spool quicker but drop off higher in the rev range

I am aware of that, I am wondering though what a T3 AR36 stage 3-5 would perform like...

just remember there is a reason garrett dont sell hybrids with massive compressors and tiny turbines.. the more unequal the ratio, the less time such a turbo will last.

Have a look at www.atpturbo.com to see what turbine housings are available for the GT3071, there is a huge range of housings they have as options on the turbo's, but all are genuine Garrett turbo's.

Then contact 888 Performance in Durban, they are dealers for ATP Turbos, and will be able to order you any combo you want from ATP.

These Jap T3/4 would give you about 350hp on 1.4 bar boost :D

Give Smart racing in pta a call, they can also get them at a good price

I was going to stay out of this one...BUT !
 A t66 comp mated to a .3 AR turbine ? It will spool quick yes, right into the surge section of the t66. and thats it, nothing further will happen. No boost, no revs, just good old barking back out of the turbine.

The turbine has to be able to drive the compressor.

You want the right turbo for your engine ? Garrett GT3070-R . Period, just put one onto the Celica and it`s the best all rounder that you can use. Im possibly looking at the Garrett GT3071 -R for the RB at the moment.

I have a RB25 Neo BB turbo with a dash 23 compressor wheel, this is maybe the cheapest and quickest way to get power on low boost.

The above mentioned may read a max of 300HP thought, but no or very little lag.

I have spoken to the garrett supplier in South Africa, explained what I wanted and this was his replay.

I will never make 400+ whp with my motor and not have lag up untill between 4500 and 5000rpm, even with a BB turbo, wich would be the best bet to make that WHP.

As I thought, for me to have close to normal boost response I need to use a T3 AR 36 exhaust housing with a stage 3 wheel, a T4 AR60 housing and a -25 compressor wheel, he predicts max 350-380 whp and I would be able to boost 2 bar if I want... with other words a T3/T4 hybrid.

Yes I do Nico...
T3 AR 36 exhaust housing with a stage 3 wheel, a T4 AR60 housing and a -25 compressor wheel
Does this narrow it down...obveously you want to tell me something...please do Nico, there is still plenty time for me to work out everything....and I will still come see you...I need all the info I can before buying...
